Richard Ellis (1704-1797) immigrated from Ireland to Massachusetts, in servitude, and settled in Easton, Massachusetts when he attained his freedom in 1725. He married Jane Phillips in 1728, and moved by 1742 to Deerfield, Massachusetts, and by 1750 to Huntstown (later Ashfield), Massachusetts. Descendants and relatives lived in New England, New York, Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Minnesota and elsewhere.
