  • Publisher: Springer

"Creative Environments" is a follow-up on the book Creative Space in the same series and by the same authors, serving this time as editors of a broader book on computational intelligence and knowledge engineering tools for supporting knowledge creation. This book contains four parts. The first part presents a further development of models of knowledge creation presented already in Creative Space, in particular the Triple Helix of normal academic knowledge creation and a new, integrated model of normal academic and organizational knowledge creation, called Nanatsudaki (seven waterfalls) Model. The second part presents computational intelligence tools for knowledge acquisition by machine learn...

Evolution of Teaching and Learning Paradigms in Intelligent Environment

This book is a fascinating window on the evolution of teaching and learning paradigms in intelligent environments. It presents the latest ideas coming out of educational computing research. The three Australian authors include a number of chapters on issues of real relevance to today’s teaching practice, including an introduction to the evolution of teaching and learning paradigms; why designers cannot be agnostic about pedagogy, and the influence of constructivist thinking in design of e-learning for HE.

Parallel Evolutionary Computations

"Parallel Evolutionary Computation" focuses on the aspects related to the parallelization of evolutionary computations, such as parallel genetic operators, parallel fitness evaluation, distributed genetic algorithms, and parallel hardware implementations, as well as on their impact on several applications. The book is divided into four parts. The first part deals with a clear software-like and algorithmic vision on parallel evolutionary optimizations. The second part is about hardware implementations of genetic algorithms, a valuable topic which is hard to find in the present literature. The third part treats the problem of distributed evolutionary computation and presents three interesting ...

Ontologies for Urban Development

Action C21 of the European programme for Cooperation in the field of Scientific and Technical Research (COST - http://www.cost.esf.org/) is dedicated to investigating urban ontologies for an improved communication in urban civil engineering projects. The Action, known informally as "Towntology", brings together a large and heterogeneous grouping from across Europe, whose interests range from construction to urban tourism and from transport infrastructure to resource visualisation. On 6-7 November 2006, in Geneva, the Action convened a successful workshop to address emerging issues in the field. This volume presents the contributions to that workshop, in many cases revised afterwards to capture some of the outcomes of discussion. Many of these contributions are from members of the Towntology group, but there are also contributions from other European researchers, and from researchers in the US. The volume represents a valuable overview of major current issues in the field of urban ontologies and encapsulates many useful and different approaches. We hope that it will serve not only as a worthy outcome of Action C21, but also as a valuable resource for a wide range of researchers.
