The 1940s saw a brief audacious experiment in mass entertainment: a jukebox with a screen. Patrons could insert a dime, then listen to and watch such popular entertainers as Nat "King" Cole, Gene Krupa, Cab Calloway or Les Paul. A number of companies offered these tuneful delights, but the most successful was the Mills Novelty Company and its three-minute musical shorts called Soundies. This book is a complete filmography of 1,880 Soundies: the musicians heard and seen on screen, recording and filming dates, arrangers, soloists, dancers, entertainment trade reviews and more. Additional filmographies cover more than 80 subjects produced by other companies. There are 125 photos taken on film sets, along with advertising images and production documents. More than 75 interviews narrate the firsthand experiences and recollections of Soundies directors and participants. Forty years before MTV, the Soundies were there for those who loved the popular music of the 1940s. This was truly "music for the eyes."

In industry and economics, the most common solutions of partial differential equations involving multivariate numerical integration over cuboids include techniques of iterated one-dimensional approximate integration. In geosciences, however, the integrals are extended over potato-like volumes (such as the ball, ellipsoid, geoid, or the Earth) and their boundary surfaces which require specific multi-variate approximate integration methods. Integration and Cubature Methods: A Geomathematically Oriented Course provides a basic foundation for students, researchers, and practitioners interested in precisely these areas, as well as breaking new ground in integration and cubature in geomathematics.

Slave Narratives - Collected Works (Illustrated)

Slave narratives comprise a prominent tradition of American literature, shaping the form and themes of some of the most celebrated and controversial writing in the country’s history. The first slave narrative to become an international bestseller was the ‘Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano’, which introduced the slave ship through the innocent perspective of an African captive. With the rise of the abolition movement in the early nineteenth century, there was a demand for hard-hitting eyewitness accounts of the harsh realities of slavery. Numerous former slaves published detailed and engaging accounts of their enslavement and daring escapes to freedom. This collection...

Musaicum Books presents to you this meticulously collection of hundreds of life stories, recorded interviews and incredible vivid testimonies of former slaves from the American southern states, including photos of the people being interviewed and their extraordinary narratives. After the end of Civil War in 1865, more than four million slaves were set free. There were several efforts to record the remembrances of the former slaves. The Federal Writers' Project was one such project by the United States federal government to support writers during the Great Depression by asking them to interview and record the myriad stories and experiences of slavery of former slaves. The resulting collection preserved hundreds of life stories from 17 U.S. states that would otherwise have been lost in din of modernity and America's eagerness to deliberately forget the blot on its recent past.
