Four Stories of Bandra, old and new We start in 1573, the year the Portuguese Jesuits came to Vandre (so called in those days), and effectively put it on the map. The next date is 1739, when the Maratha armies conquered Bacaim, Salcete - and Bandora -- and expelled the Portuguese from these parts forever. The year 1887 is our next milestone, Queen Victoria's jubilee year,when Bandra's native Catholics acquired a new name: "East Indian'. And so to the recent past, the 1963, where young Indians, newly independent, sought to make sense of their world. Four narratives, each seen through the eyes of a young man, the "Bandra Boy" of the title. What he sees, desires and becomes, is the grist of this narrative.

The Oxford Handbook of Developmental Linguistics
In this handbook, renowned scholars from a range of backgrounds provide a state of the art review of key developmental findings in language acquisition. The book places language acquisition phenomena in a richly linguistic and comparative context, highlighting the link between linguistic theory, language development, and theories of learning. The book is divided into six parts. Parts I and II examine the acquisition of phonology and morphology respectively, with chapters covering topics such as phonotactics and syllable structure, prosodic phenomena, compound word formation, and processing continuous speech. Part III moves on to the acquisition of syntax, including argument structure, questions, mood alternations, and possessives. Peripheries
The syntactic periphery has become one of the most important areas of research in syntactic theory in recent years, due to the emergence of new research programmes initiated by Rizzi, Kayne and Chomsky. However research has concentrated on the empirical nature of clausal peripheries. The purpose of this volume is to explore the question of whether the notion of periphery has any real theoretical bite.
