Practical Skin Pathology is the only dermatopathology reference that uses a systematic pattern recognition approach to help you achieve more accurate diagnoses of both neoplastic and non-neoplastic skin diseases. This volume in the Pattern Recognition Series helps you to efficiently and confidently evaluate even the most challenging skin diseases and lesions. Identify challenging types of skin cancer, including cutaneous lymphomas and melanocytic lesions, as well as non-neoplastic skin diseases such as panniculitis; drug eruptions, including reactions to newer chemotherapeutic agents; infectious diseases; and many more, with the only dermatopathology reference that uses a pattern recognition approach. Progress logically from the histologic pattern, through the appropriate workup, around the pitfalls, to the best diagnosis. Compare your clinical findings to more than 1,400 full-color, high-quality photos that capture the characteristic presentation of a full range of dermatopathology specimens.
Since the publication of the third edition in 1997, the World Health Organization (WHO) has printed two major volumes concerning tumours of the thymus, and the authors of this volume collaborated on these books. In the last 10 years, little progress has been made in the study of tumours of the thymus, although a few new subtypes have been reported. The most significant change was the subtyping by the WHO of tumours of the thymus that do not cause constitutional changes. The present volume has adopted the WHO system of classification. For pathologists who are not as familiar with the WHO system, the authors clearly explain and illustrate both the morphologic and histogenetic classification sy...
In order to attain a better understanding of the varied morphology of neoplasms of the adrenal cortex, medulla and extraadrenal paraganglia, structural aspects of normal anatomy, including hyperplasia, are illustrated here. Numerous new colour illustrations appear in this edition, and a large number have been replaced or upgraded using high quality transparencies for digital imaging. The contributions of cytology and fine needle aspiration biopsy in diagnosis are emphasised, particularly with respect to adrenal tumors. Emphasis is also placed on the important role of molecular pathology and immunohistochemistry in tumour diagnosis, and in some cases may provide valuable information regarding prognosis.
This edition represents a significant expansion of both the textual and illustrative material of the previous volume. The numerous images reflect the authors' belief that the "atlas" role that was the intent of the original edition is of paramount importance in this work. At the same time, the current scope is no longer primarily that of a visual resource, but also a comprehensive guide to clinical, pathologic, immunohistochemical, molecular biologic, prognostic, and to a limited extent, therapeutic aspects of the various entities. For this reason, the authors have greatly expanded coverage of the immunohistochemical and molecular features of the various lesions, recognising that such information is quickly supplemented by new observations. Nonetheless, they continue to believe that careful gross examination and routine light microscopic observations are the foundations for diagnosis of these neoplasms and neoplastic-like processes. A complement to Tumors of the Prostate Gland, Seminal Vesicles, Penis, and Scrotum, this volume will serve as an outstanding resource for the diagnosis of testicular neoplasms for pathologists at all levels of experience.

The past several decades have witnessed an impressive array of conceptual and techno logical advances in the biomedical sciences. Much of the progress in this area has developed directly as a result of new morphology-based methods that have permitted the assessment of chemical, enzymatic, immunological, and molecular parameters at the cellular and tissue levels. Additional novel approaches including laser capture microdissection have also emerged for the acquisition of homogeneous cell popula tions for molecular analyses. These methodologies have literally reshaped the approaches to fundamental biological questions and have also had a major impact in the area of diagnostic pathology. Much of...
