Processionary Moths and Climate Change : An Update

Because of its peculiar biology, its negative impacts on forestry, and its urticating larvae affecting human and animal health, pine processionary moth has largely been studied in many European countries during the last century. However, knowledge remained scattered and no synthesis has ever been published. Since the IPCC retained the moth as one of the two insect indicators of climate change because of its expansion with warming up, filling this gap became increasingly important. Led by INRA, this book associates 101 authors from 22 countries of Europe, Minor Asia and North Africa, combining all the concerned research fields (entomology, ecology, genetics, mathematical modelling, medical and veterinary science, pest management) in a multidisciplinary approach to understand and model the processes underlying past, present and future moth expansion and to propose adapted management methods. Besides, the major biological patterns of the related processionary species are also detailed.

Fibre Reinforced Concrete: Improvements and Innovations

This volume highlights the latest advances, innovations, and applications in the field of fibre reinforced concrete (FRC) and discusses a diverse range of topics concerning FRC: rheology and early-age properties, mechanical properties, codes and standards, long-term properties, durability, analytical and numerical models, quality control, structural and Industrial applications, smart FRC’s, nanotechnologies related to FRC, textile reinforced concrete, structural design and UHPFRC. The contributions present improved traditional and new ideas that will open novel research directions and foster multidisciplinary collaboration between different specialists. Although the symposium was postponed, the book gathers peer-reviewed papers selected in 2020 for the RILEM-fib International Symposium on Fibre Reinforced Concrete (BEFIB).

Transforming Construction: Advances in Fiber Reinforced Concrete

This volume highlights the latest advances, innovations, and applications in the field of fiber-reinforced concrete (FRC) and textile-reinforced concrete (TRC), as presented by scientists and engineers at the RILEM-fib XI International Symposium on Fiber Reinforced Concrete (BEFIB), held in Dresden, Germany, on September 15-18, 2024. It discusses a diverse range of topics concerning FRC and TRC, including technological aspects, mechanical properties, long-term performance, analytical and numerical models, structural design, codes and standards, as well as practical applications and case studies.

Fibre Reinforced Concrete

Fibre Reinforced Concrete (FRC) is a composite material characterized by an enhanced post-cracking tensile residual strength, due to the capacity of fibres to bridge the crack faces by means of pull-out mechanism. Due to a better knowledge of FRC and the recent developments worldwide of guidelines for structural design, the fib Special Activity Group 5, who prepared the new fib Model Code, decided to introduce some sections on new materials and in particular on FRC structural design. At that time, working Groups TG 8.3 (“Fibre reinforced concrete”) and TG 8.6 (“Ultra high performance fibre reinforced concrete”) of fib prepared these sections of the new fib Model Code concerning FRC d...
