Proceedings of the Fourth SIAM International Conference on Data Mining
The Fourth SIAM International Conference on Data Mining continues the tradition of providing an open forum for the presentation and discussion of innovative algorithms as well as novel applications of data mining. This is reflected in the talks by the four keynote speakers who discuss data usability issues in systems for data mining in science and engineering, issues raised by new technologies that generate biological data, ways to find complex structured patterns in linked data, and advances in Bayesian inference techniques. This proceedings includes 61 research papers.
Data Analysis, Machine Learning and Applications
Data analysis and machine learning are research areas at the intersection of computer science, artificial intelligence, mathematics and statistics. They cover general methods and techniques that can be applied to a vast set of applications such as web and text mining, marketing, medical science, bioinformatics and business intelligence. This volume contains the revised versions of selected papers in the field of data analysis, machine learning and applications presented during the 31st Annual Conference of the German Classification Society (Gesellschaft für Klassifikation - GfKl). The conference was held at the Albert-Ludwigs-University in Freiburg, Germany, in March 2007.
Progress in Artificial Intelligence
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 12th Portuguese Conference on Artificial Intelligence, EPIA 2005, held in Covilhã, Portugal in December 2005 as nine integrated workshops. The 58 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 167 submissions. In accordance with the nine constituting workshops, the papers are organized in topical sections on general artificial intelligence (GAIW 2005), affective computing (AC 2005), artificial life and evolutionary algorithms (ALEA 2005), building and applying ontologies for the semantic Web (BAOSW 2005), computational methods in bioinformatics (CMB 2005), extracting knowledge from databases and warehouses (EKDB&W 2005), intelligent robotics (IROBOT 2005), multi-agent systems: theory and applications (MASTA 2005), and text mining and applications (TEMA 2005).

The conference, which was organized in cooperation with the British Classification Society (BCS) and the Dutch/Flemish Classification Society (VOC), was hosted by Helmut-Schmidt-University, Hamburg, Germany, in July 2008.

Current Approaches to Formal Slavic Linguistics
Formal Slavic Linguistics is concerned with explicit descriptions of structure and meaning of Slavic languages within a certain theoretical framework of Principles and Parameters that attempts to situate linguistic theory in the broader cognitive sciences. Many approaches in the present volume reflect this development in a rather significant way. But the book also illustrates the diversity of approaches we use in attempting to reflect the entire range of subfields within a given theoretical framework of cognitive science. Thus, the authors investigate all linguistic levels and interfaces of a large array of Slavic languages, based on current formal models in linguistics (such as Minimalist Program, Generalized Phrase Structure Grammar (GPSG), Head Driven Phrase Structure Grammar (HPSG), Lexical Functional Grammar (LFG), The Prague Generative Functional Grammar and Formal Semantics of different origins).
Studies in Formal Slavic Phonology, Morphology, Syntax, Semantics and Information Structure
The proceedings of FDSL 7, Leipzig 2007, offer current formal investigations into Slavic morphology, semantics, syntax and information structure. In addition to the main conference, FDSL 7 saw the first special Workshop on Slavic Phonology initiated by Tobias Scheer. Some of the papers presented at that workshop are included in this volume as well. The analyses published in this volume address the following Slavic languages: Bulgarian, Czech, Macedonian, Old Church Slavonic, Polish, Russian, Serbian and Serbo-Croatian. FDSL - the European forum for the formal description of Slavic languages - was called into being in 1995. The FDSL-conferences take place biannually in Leipzig and Potsdam.
