Grammar Between Norm and Variation
The articles collected in this volume offer the most various access to the discussed questions on norm and variation. In their entirety, they reflect the current discussion of the topic. Focusing on the object languages German and English ensures a high level of topical consistency. On the other hand, the four large topic areas (emergence and change of norms and grammatical constructions; relationship of codes of norms and 'real' language usage; competition of standard and non-standard language norms; and subsistent norms of minority languages and «institutionalised second-language varieties») cover a large range of relevant issues, thereby certainly giving an impetus to new and further investigations.

Diminutives across Languages, Theoretical Frameworks and Linguistic Domains
This volume addresses a number of issues in current morphological theory from the point of view of diminutive formation, such as the role of phonology in diminutives and hypocoristics and consequently its place in the overall architecture of grammar, i.e. phonology-first versus syntax/morphology-first theoretical analyses, diminutives in the L1 acquisition of typologically diverse languages, and the borrowing of non-diminutive morphology for the expression of diminutive meanings, among others. Among the peculiarities of diminutive morphology discussed are the relation between diminutives and mass nouns, the avoidance of diminutives in plural contexts in some languages, and the relatively frequent semantic bleaching and reanalysis of diminutive forms cross-linguistically. Special attention is paid to the debate on the head versus modifier status of diminutive affixes (corresponding to high versus low diminutives in alternative analyses), with data from spoken and sign languages. Overall, the volume addresses a number of topics that will be of interest to scholars of almost all linguistic subfields and persuasions.

Jüngste Forschungen zu Heine. Ein Schwerpunkt dieses Jahrbuchs liegt bei Heines Prosatexten, darunter die 'Florentinischen Nächte', der 'Schwabenspiegel' und die 'Bäder von Lukka'. Die Beschäftigung Heines mit Schiller und die erste Heine-Konferenz zum 100. Todestag des Dichters sind weitere Themen.
Variantenwörterbuch des Deutschen
Das Variantenwörterbuch des Deutschen enthält ca. 12.000 Wörter und Wendungen der Standardsprache mit national oder regional eingeschränkter Verbreitung oder Differenzen im Gebrauch sowie deren gemeindeutsche Entsprechungen. Es basiert auf der Auswertung eines umfangreichen Quellenkorpus aus allen Ländern, in denen Deutsch nationale oder regionale Amtssprache ist, sowie des Internets als Belegquelle. Damit ist erstmals ein Wörterbuch greifbar, das die Variation auf der Ebene der deutschen Standardsprache systematisch und umfassend darstellt. Ein solches Wörterbuch existiert bisher noch für keine andere Sprache. Es kommt für alle Sprachen in Betracht, die sich über mehrere Nationen erstrecken und nationale oder regionale Besonderheiten aufweisen (plurinationale oder plurizentrische Sprachen). Dieses Wörterbuch ist deshalb von grundlegender wissenschaftlicher Bedeutung nicht nur für die deutsche Lexikographie, sondern für die Sprachwissenschaft insgesamt. Es hat großen praktischen Wert u. a. für Übersetzer, Autoren, Lehrer und Lerner des Deutschen, auch für das Fach 'Deutsch als Fremdsprache', und als Nachschlagewerk für Leser deutschsprachiger Literatur.
