Traces the history of the Jewish occupants of an apartment building of four stories, built in 1911. The first chapter relates to the period from 1912-33. The rest of the book describes the persecution of the Jewish residents of Frankfurt based on the experiences of the families who lived in this building on at Gaussstrasse 14, which became a "ghetto house". The Jews of the city were forced to live in ca. 300 such houses between 1941-44. Discusses the boycott of Jewish enterprises, exclusion of Jews from social and professional life, emigration and escape, the "Kristallnacht" pogrom, life in the ghetto, forced labor, and finally deportation and annihilation. Pp. 134-161 present biographies of the Jewish residents of Gaussstrasse 14 who were murdered during the Holocaust. Pp. 163-182 contain biograpies of those who survived.
