Mantra Kidung Jawa dalam buku ini menjadi bahasan utama ditelisik dari pendekatan etnopuitika. Pada bab I dibahas penelitian-penelitian terdahulu tentang mantra Jawa, celah yang belum digarap, dan “pisau bedah” yang dipakai dalam buku ini.
