University Jubilees and University History Writing
Researching and writing its history has always been one of the tasks of the university, particularly on the occasion of anniversary celebrations. Through case studies of Prague (1848, 1948), Oslo (1911), Cluj (from 1919), Leipzig (2009) and Trondheim (2010), this book shows the continuity of the close relationship between jubilees and university historiography and the impact of this interaction on the jubilee publications and academic heritage. Up to today, historians are faced with the challenge of finding a balance between an engaged, celebratory approach and a more distant, academically critical one. In its third part, the book aims to go beyond the jubilee and presents three other ways of writing university history, by focusing on the university as an educational institution. Contributors are: Thomas Brandt, Pieter Dhondt, Marek Ďurčanský, Jonas Flöter, Jorunn Sem Fure, Trude Maurer, Emmanuelle Picard, Ana-Maria Stan and Johan Östling.
New Approaches in Demotic Studies
The present volume collects current research on manuscripts written in the demotic language, which have recently been discovered in excavations or which can be found in museums worldwide. The manuscripts’ topics range from religion, law, and literature through ancient Egyptian linguistics to the history of economics as well as social history. Featured articles were first presented at the International Conference for Demotic Studies in Leipzig.

The study of the interaction of molecules with surfaces and interfaces is of great importance for the understanding of adsorption and catalysis on solid surfaces, the complex properties of molecules on fluid interfaces and the relationship between structure and functionality in macromolecular biological systens. It is the aim of this volume to present and analyse in a comprehensive and accesible way the methodical achievements and the recent proress in this field. The broadness of both scope and selection of the topics should help in particular non-expert readers to become familiar with this exciting field of research.
