This book describes translational cancer therapeutics and the way forward from clinical and molecular diagnosis to treatment. In addition, genomics alterations, microRNAs, and long non-coding RNAs translate precision medicine for the individualistic therapy of cancer patients. It describes the involvement of various pharmacogenetic factors in pharmacodynamic/pharmacokinetic (PD/PK) modulations of medicines. Indeed, the role of bioinformatics and biostatistics, considering the extensive data analysis serving precision medicine approaches, has also been entertained in the present book. Therefore, intended book demonstrates the successful medical evidence for the use of precision medicine in th...
The applications of nanoparticulate drug delivery have gained significant attention in cancer diagnosis and treatment. Owing to their unique features and design, nanomedicines have made remarkable progress in eliminating dreadful tumors. Research in cancer nanomedicine spans multitudes of drug-delivery systems that include high tumor-targeting ability, sensitivity toward tumor microenvironments, and improved efficacy. Various nanocarriers have been developed and approved for anti-tumor drug targeting. These nanocarriers, such as liposomes, micelles, nanotubes, dendrimers, and peptides, offer several advantages including high selectivity, multifunctionality, specificity, biocompatibility, and precise control of drug release. This book provides complete information about each aspect of nanomaterials and nanotherapeutics, including synthesis, analysis, disease diagnosis, mechanistic insight, targeted drug delivery, and clinical implications in a concise and informative way. It presents simple and reader-friendly representations of the mechanisms of action of nanomaterials on cellular targets and highlights the challenges in targeted drug delivery with ongoing chemotherapeutic drugs.
It is now well known that proteases are found everywhere, in viruses and bacteria as well as in all human, animal and plant cells, and play a role in a variety of biological functions ranging from digestion, fertilization, development to senescence and death. Under physiological conditions the ability of proteases is regulated by endogenous inhibitors. However, when the activity of proteases is not regulated appropriately, disease processes can result, as seen in Alzheimer’s disease, cancer metastasis and tumor progression, inflammation and atherosclerosis. Thus it is evident that there is an absolute need for a tighter control of proteolytic activities in different cells and tissues. Aime...
Plant growth and development is closely dependent on the plant environment, including the wide-spread presence of organic and inorganic xenobiotics and pollutants. Currently, heavy metals are the most common inorganic environmental pollutants and they have pronounced effects and consequences not only for plants, but also for the ecosystem in which the plants form an integral component. It has been suggested that these contaminants accumulate in agricultural crops, thus entering the food chain and posing a significant health risk. Plants growing in polluted sites exhibit altered metabolism, reduced growth, and decreased biomass production. These pollutants adhere to plant roots and exert phys...
This book highlights the medical importance of and increasing global interest in herbal medicines, herbal health products, herbal pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, food supplements, herbal cosmetics, etc. It also addresses various issues that are hampering the advancement of Indian herbal medicine around the globe; these include quality concerns and quality control, pharmacovigilance, scientific investigation and validation, IPR and biopiracy, and the challenge that various indigenous systems of medicine are at risk of being lost. The book also explores the role of traditional medicine in providing new functional leads and modern approaches that can offer elegant strategies for facilitating t...
This book bridges the gap between fundamental research and biomedical and pharmacological applications on proteases. It represents a comprehensive overview of the multifaceted field of proteases in cellular environment and highlights the recently elucidated functions of complex proteolytic systems in different diseases. Several established investigators have elucidated the crucial role of proteases in biological processes, including how proteolytic function and regulation can be combined to develop new strategies of therapeutic interventions. Proteases form one of the largest and most diverse families of enzymes known. It is now clear that proteases are involved in every aspect of life funct...
Humankind has used a variety of spices to flavor food for centuries. However, the chemistry and potential health benefits of these herbs have become clearer only rather recently. Numerous studies performed during the past decades have revealed several advantageous properties of bioactive constituents of various spices, including their anticancer effects. This edited collection summarizes diverse types of anticancer activities of compounds derived from some well-known spices, describing the anticancer mechanisms behind their action and highlighting molecular targets and cellular signaling pathways. It acquaints the reader with the potential anticancer activities of agents contained in laurel, oregano, thyme, rosemary, basil, dill, parsley, and several other common spices. These molecular entities could probably be considered as lead structures for further design of more efficient anticancer drugs in the future.

Maithili Has A Long Tradition Of At Least Seven Hundred Years; Being On Centre Stage In The Whole Of North-Eastern India Including Nepal. It Has Inspired The Growth Of Literature In The Entire Region. The Present Work Endeavours To Supplement The Earlier Work By Dr. Jayakant Mishra, (Sahitya Akademi, 1976) By Updating, Elaborating And Analysing The Latest Trends; It Dwells At Length On Contemporary Literature In All Its Forms, Focusing On The Spirit Of Mithila Today. A Careful Study Of Its Salient Features Will Show How Modern Maithili Literature Is Striving To Catch Up With Other Indian Literatures. Now That Maithili Is On The National Map, The Present Work Has In Mind The General Reader Who May Not Be Conversant With The Current Growth Of Maithili.
