William Hyde was born in York, Livingston County, New York, in 1818, the son of Heman Hyde. He and his father joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Freedom, Catteraugus County, New York, in 1834. He served serveral missions for the Church. A member of the Mormon Battalion, he arrived in Utah in 1847. He He married five times and was the father of twenty-six children. He died at Hyde Park, Cache County, Utah, in 1874.
