Techno-economic Performance of Marine Capture Fisheries
This paper summarises the findings of 15 country level studies on the economic and financial performance of marine capture fisheries conducted in 1999 and 2000. Most types of vessels covered by the study showed a net profit after deducting the cost of depreciation and interest. These overall positive results were also achieved because of higher prices paid to producers as compared to the previous study period.

Papers Presented at the Technical Consultation on Reduction of Wastage in Fisheries
This publication contains the 20 invited papers which were presented and discussed at the Technical Consultation on Reduction of Wastage in Fisheries held in Tokyo, Japan (28 October - 1 November 1996). The first section consists of papers which discuss the issues of wastage reduction, selectivity of fishing practices, utilization of presently discarded catch and management measures that are being or have been made in various countries to reduce wastage and discards. The second section contains papers which review the bycatch and discards problem in various regions and endeavour to quantify and qualify the magnitude of wastage. Comparisons are made with earlier estimates given in FAO Fisheries Technical Paper no. 339 - A Global Assessment of Fisheries Bycatch and Discards.
Report of the Expert Consultation on Best Practice Technical Guidelines for IPOA/NPOA-Seabirds
Incidental mortality in commercial fisheries around the world is a threat to seabirds and is causing decline in many breeding populations. Guidelines were prepared during this Expert Consultation to assist countries in developing policies and plans of action for reducing incidental catch and mortality of seabirds in fisheries.
