This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 6th International Symposium on Pervasive Computing Paradigms for Mental Health, MindCare 2016, held in Barcelona, Spain, in November 2016, and the Second International Conference of Future Access Enablers of Ubiquitous and Intelligent Infrastructures, Fabulous 2016, Belgrade, Serbia, October 24-26, 2016, and the Third International Conference on Interoperability in IoT, IIoT 2015, Rome, Italy, October 26-27, 2015. The 24 papers were selected from 32 submissions. MindCare presents technologies in favor of maintaining and improving psychological well-being. Fabulous presents broad areas of future wireless networks, ambient and assisted living and smart infrastructures in order to interact, exchange ideas, expertise, experience and know-how. And finally IIoT presents tools and services in home automation and industrial service.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Pervasive Computing Paradigms for Mental Health, MindCare 2018, held in Boston, MA, USA, Jin January 2018. The 19 papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 30 submissions and present advanced computing and communication technologies from the use of wearable sensors and ecological virtual environments to use of big data and machine learning techniques. These technologies can be used to support and promote the well-being through an objective continuous data collection and personalized
Virtual Reality (VR) is a rapidly maturing technology that offers new and unique solutions to otherwise intractable problems in the study of cognition, behavior and neuroscience. VR removes many of the constraints imposed by laboratory paradigms, allowing us to track cognitive, behavioral and brain responses to naturalistic (or even impossible) situations without sacrificing experimental control. But VR is not a tool that can be swiftly and effortlessly integrated into existing research pipelines; currently, the benefits of VR are accompanied by a host of methodological challenges and important practical considerations. To help navigate this new methodology, this volume provides a balanced r...
This book has a unique focus on physiotherapy techniques and training methods that are ideally suited for the obese patient. Despite its related comorbidities and disability, not to mention its pandemic proportions, the impact of obesity on individual capacities and rehabilitative outcomes is often neglected by physiotherapists and physical trainers alike. The number of disabled subjects who are also obese is now increasing worldwide, as is the rate of obese patients admitted to post-acute rehabilitation units. The effective rehabilitative treatment of these patients involves special multidisciplinary considerations. This book fills that gap, by gathering evidence-based chapters addressing n...
This volume provides an integrative review of the emerging and increasing use of network science techniques in cognitive psychology, first developed in mathematics, computer science, sociology, and physics. The first resource on network science for cognitive psychologists in a growing international market, Vitevitch and a team of expert contributors provide a comprehensive and accessible overview of this cutting-edge topic. This innovative guide draws on the three traditional pillars of cognitive psychological research–experimental, computational, and neuroscientific–and incorporates the latest findings from neuroimaging. The network perspective is applied to the fundamental domains of c...

Due to the implacable, enigmatic nature of Giorgio de Chiricos vision, there has been numerous, conflicting interpretations of his painting. This discussion considers the artists integration of Nietzschean philosophy, particularly his perspectivism, the symbolism of Grecian myths and his enigmatic figuration. These ingredients are used as an insight into de Chirico's aesthetic achievements. The artists work is characterized by a consideration of appearance and reality; his seemingly straightforward images suggest a sense of accessibility, yet they are ultimately irreducible to knowing. His haunting images include references to both the Italian Risorgimento and Nietzsches Birth of Tragedy, and these are used in part as an interpretive framework. De Chirico's fascination with the poetic content of Nietzschean themes is particularly relevant in the light of the Apollonian-Dionysian disunity; a work that acts as a touchstone to the understanding of de Chiricos visual mystery.
