Until today, Western, European sociology contributes to the social reality of colonial modernity, and gender knowledge is a paradigmatic example of it. Multiple Gender Cultures, Sociology, and Plural Modernities critically engages with these ‘Western eyes’ and shifts the focus towards the global variety of gendered socialities and hierarchically entangled social histories. This is conceptualised as multiple gender cultures within plural modernities. The authors examine the multifaceted realities of gendered life in varying contexts across the globe. Bringing together different perspectives, the volume provides a rereading of the social fabric of gender in contrast to androcentrist-modern...
The volume addresses current challenges for gender equality policy and the necessary further development of gender equality policy concepts in order to effectively engage with exclusion mechanisms. The contributions discuss this at the interface between research and policy and on the basis of specific examples.
This volume examines the criteria of excellence producing inequalities of gender in the daily working environment and evaluation of academics. Policymakers have increasingly placed emphasis on gender equality as part of a strategy for achieving research excellence, and efforts to reduce gender bias have become mainstream. This book suggests that this goal has remained elusive in practice due to continuing under-representation of women across many academic and scientific fields. Questioning the old structures of male dominance still prevalent in national research policy, the book explores the effects of institutional values and practices on the careers of academics, particularly the academic ...
This book provides a critical and historical perspective on the ways concepts of 'gender' and 'engineering' have been socially constructed and the relationship to the masculinist image of engineering that has endured over time. To alter this situation, the authors in this volume propose that the focus of analyses move from the under-representation of women in engineering to an investigation of the more relational concept of gender and how gender and gender relations are embedded in the entire engineering enterprise. This book is meant for anyone who recognizes the need to rebel against gender norms and binaries if engineering is to realize its potential as a more inclusive and socially transformative project.
What are the academic career options for women in various European countries? What has changed? Does the glass ceiling still exist? In a comparative perspective, contributors from different countries provide answers to these questions. By investigating the interrelationship between strategy and structure, the articles in this study focus on the interconnectedness between the institutional environment of systems of higher education and the strategic behavior, aspirations, hopes, and desires of female academics. The book examines how such systems impact those women looking back on their career path, those just starting to think about a career in academia, or those on their way to applying for a leadership position at a university.
The implications of these developments are also reflected in the challenge To The traditional, hegemonic and rational understanding of subjectivity. Against the background of these great social changes, several factors indicate that the forms of self-regulation or self-governance are also being transformed. A one-sided consideration of the homo economicus and its varieties would underestimate, For example, certain non-rational forms of self-perception and self-reflection, As well as non-rational practices of self-management and subjectivation.
Gibt es also womöglich keine weibliche DJ Kultur?
