Verfolgt man die Spuren verwandtschaftlicher Vorfahren und dokumentiert ihre jeweiligen Lebensumstände, dann bleibt dadurch auch ein Stück Zeitgeschichte erhalten. Urteile über ein ganzes Leben eines Vorfahren können verständlicherweise nur von einem Menschen in fortgeschrittenem Alter gegeben werden, wenn er die Vergangenheit selbst erst als Geschichte begreift und die betreffende Person mit den damaligen Zeitumständen in Verbindung bringt. Bekanntlich bewundern wir in der Rückschau auf große Zeiträume in vielen Fällen die Leistungen unserer Vorfahren. Wie dieses Buch belegt, waren es in der Tat bemerkenswerte Erfolgsgeschichten.
