Philosophical Writings, part of the German Library Series contains essential portions of the theses that make Nietzsche the most controversial of philosophers. It includes: The Birth of Tragedy, Beyond Good and Evil, The Gay Science, Untimely Meditations, Human, All too Human, and other works. Included are Preface to Richard Wagner, On Truth and Falsity in their Extramortal Sense, The History of an Error, We Antipodes, Geneaology of Morals: A Polemic, and On the Pathos of Truth. Although his reputation has bordered on notoriety, Nietzsche's influence has unquestionably not diminished with time, and our fascination with him will be further fed by the publication of this volume. >

In 'The Dawn of Day,' Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche continues his profound exploration of the human condition and moral philosophy. This early exposition marks a pivotal transition in Nietzsche's thought, capturing the emergence of key themes that would define his later works, such as the reevaluation of values and the critique of modernity. Nietzsche's aphoristic style – a hallmark of his literary method – allows for a dense and nuanced unpacking of complex ideas, establishing a deliberate rhythm that challenges the reader to engage actively with the text. Beyond its style, the work situates itself firmly within the context of 19th-century thought, signaling a bold departure from traditio...

Ecce Homo

Ecce Homo is the last original book written by philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche before his final years of insanity that lasted until his death in 1900. It was written in 1888 and was not published until 1908. According to one of Nietzsche's most prominent English translators, Walter Kaufmann, the book offers "Nietzsche's own interpretation of his development, his works, and his significance." The book contains several chapters with ironic self-laudatory titles, such as "Why I Am So Wise," "Why I Am So Clever," "Why I Write Such Good Books" and "Why I Am a Destiny." Walter Kaufmann, in his biography Nietzsche: Philosopher, Psychologist, Antichrist noticed the internal parallels, in form and language, to Plato's Apology which documented the Trial of Socrates. In effect, Nietzsche was putting himself on trial with this work, and his sardonic judgments and chapter headings are mordant, mocking, self-deprecating, sly, and they turn this trial against his future accusers, distorters, and superficial judges.
