Reflections on Persian Grammar Vol. II
This volume is a survey of the historical development of Persian grammar in its Western Branch, within the larger division of Persian linguistic scholarship. It focuses on the contributions of a number of distinguished scholars, including Sir William Jones, John Platts, Matthew Lumsden, D. C. Phillott, and A. K. S. Lambton, among others, who have used their deep knowledge of the Persian language, its literature, and history to illustrate its major structural properties and parametric variations. The outstanding linguistic and pedagogical achievements of these scholars, for whom Persian is a foreign language, must inspire our admiration, for the expression of which we do not have adequate words.
Advances in Iranian Linguistics II
This volume offers insight into different aspects of an interesting but fairly understudied language family, opens a path to new inquiries, and provides valuable contribution to linguistics, in general, and to Iranian linguistics, in particular. The articles in this volume offer novel analyses of significant properties of some of the Iranian languages, and contribute to various linguistic subareas such as experimental and historical linguistics as well as the morphology, syntax and semantics of several members of this language family. Specifically, this volume features a few articles on the Ezafe construction which shed new light on this interesting phenomenon of Western Iranian languages from historical, comparative and syntactic points of view. Moreover, a few articles address the syntax and formal semantics of properties of Persian, offering new insight into particular constructions in this language which are also fruitful for the general theory of linguistics. Crucially, all authors raise important questions, opening up the path for further investigations.
On looking into words (and beyond)
While linguistic theory is in continual flux as progress is made in our ability to understand the structure and function of language, one constant has always been the central role of the word. On looking into words is a wide-ranging volume spanning current research into word-based morphology, morphosyntax, the phonology-morphology interface, and related areas of theoretical and empirical linguistics. The 26 papers that constitute this volume extend morphological and grammatical theory to signed as well as spoken language, to diachronic as well as synchronic evidence, and to birdsong as well as human language.
Grammaticalization Scenarios from Europe and Asia
This volume intends to fill the gap in the grammaticalization studies setting as its goal the systematic description of grammaticalization processes in genealogically and structurally diverse languages. To address the problem of the limitations of the secondary sources for grammaticalization studies, the editors rely on sketches of grammaticalization phenomena from experts in individual languages guided by a typological questionnaire.
Iranian and Minority Languages at Home and in Diaspora
While the typology, syntax, and morphology of Iranian languages have been widely explored, the sociolinguistic aspects remain largely understudied. The present companion addresses this essential yet overlooked area of research in two ways: (i) The book explores multilingualism within Iran and its neighbouring countries.
