C. Amting Directorate General Information Society, European Commission, Brussels Under the 4th Framework of European Research, the European Systems and Soft ware Initiative (ESSI) was part of the ESPRIT Programme. This initiative funded more than 470 projects in the area' of software and system process improvements. The majority of these projects were process improvement experiments carrying out and taking up new development processes, methods and technology within the software development process of a company. In addition, nodes (centres of exper tise), European networks (organisations managing local activities), training and dissemination actions complemented the process improvement experi...
This is the first handbook to cover comprehensively both software engineering and knowledge engineering -- two important fields that have become interwoven in recent years. Over 60 international experts have contributed to the book. Each chapter has been written in such a way that a practitioner of software engineering and knowledge engineering can easily understand and obtain useful information. Each chapter covers one topic and can be read independently of other chapters, providing both a general survey of the topic and an in-depth exposition of the state of the art. Practitioners will find this handbook useful when looking for solutions to practical problems. Researchers can use it for quick access to the background, current trends and most important references regarding a certain topic. The handbook consists of two volumes. Volume One covers the basic principles and applications of software engineering and knowledge engineering.Volume Two will cover the basic principles and applications of visual and multimedia software engineering, knowledge engineering, data mining for software knowledge, and emerging topics in software engineering and knowledge engineering.
This volume contains the papers selected for presentation at the 10th International Conference on Rough Sets, Fuzzy Sets, Data Mining, and Granular Computing, RSFDGrC 2005, organized at the University of Regina, August 31st–September 3rd, 2005.
This volume contains the papers selected for presentation at the 10th Int- national Conference on Rough Sets, Fuzzy Sets, Data Mining, and Granular Computing, RSFDGrC 2005, organized at the University of Regina, August 31st–September 3rd, 2005. This conference followed in the footsteps of inter- tional events devoted to the subject of rough sets, held so far in Canada, China, Japan,Poland,Sweden, and the USA. RSFDGrC achievedthe status of biennial international conference, starting from 2003 in Chongqing, China. The theory of rough sets, proposed by Zdzis law Pawlak in 1982, is a model of approximate reasoning. The main idea is based on indiscernibility relations that describe indistinguis...
This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-proceedings of the Web- and Database-Related Workshops held during the NetObjectDays international conference NODe 2002, in Erfurt, Germany, in October 2002. The 19 revised full papers presented together with 3 keynote papers were carefully selected during 2 rounds of reviewing and improvement. The papers are organized in topical sections on advanced Web-services, UDDI extensions, description and classification of Web services, applications based on Web-services, indexing and accessing, Web and XML databases, mobile devices and the Internet, and XML query languages.
The aim of the present proceedings volume is to discuss recent advances in the mathematical representation of engineering, socio-technical and socio-economical systems as well as in the optimization of their performance. The papers presented are extended versions of about 100 lectures (plenary lectures as well as lectures of the parallel sessions) of the conference. All papers include original researching results of the authors. Some have the character of a survey.
