Economy and Modern Christian Thought, by Devin Singh, presents key features of the engagement of Christian theology, ethics, and related disciplines with the market and economic concerns. It surveys ways in which the dialogue has been approached and invites new models and frameworks for the conversation. It contends that economy and Christian thought have long been interconnected, and recounts aspects of this relationship and why it matters for how one might engage the economy ethically and theologically. Finally, it highlights a number of sites of emerging research that are in need of development in light of pressing social, political, economic, and conceptual issues raised by modern life, including money, debt, racial capital, social reproduction, corporations, and cryptocurrency.

Fusco offers a historical, philosophical and theological review and appraisal of current research into quantum, post-modern, atheistic, mathematical, and philosophical theories that engage our interpretation of Hans Urs von Balthasar and Ferdinand Ulrich’s accounts of Ur-Kenosis. This cross-disciplinary approach inspires a new speculative metaphysical theory based on the representation of being as a holo-somatic ontology. Holocryptic metaphysics gives us a novel interpretation of transubstantiation as it is founded on the findings of quantum mechanical theory. The quantum object and black hole’s properties present a new way to explain physical matter based on its holographic identity. This scientific theory for representing physical matter’s identity is recognized, for example, in the symmetry existing between a subatomic particle and its orbital shell, a single particle’s identity in relationship to its thermodynamic system, Hawking radiation, and black hole entropy. Further, the properties of quantum non-locality and teleportation signpost a new way to understand the Eternal Logos’ relationship to Jesus Christ and the Eucharist.

Using many key philosophical concepts based on the work of Alain Badiou, this book outlines the relationship between an event and the emergence of a “truth,” which serves as a helpful organizing principle from which to study the origins of Christianity. Alain Badiou and the Book of Revelation argues that despite what postmodern philosophy says, truths still appear, and their immanent character can be known in the world through a militant subject, one who is willing to declare the consequences of an event that has happened. The second half of the book applies Badiou’s theory of the event to the book of Revelation, a book that draws out radical, even terrifying, consequences from an event “the victory of the Lamb,” particularly in the logic of a new world, and a political body that is to come. Based on several new insights following the completion of Badiou’s “The Immanence of Truths,” the book is a full-length treatment of Badiou’s philosophy to the study of Christian origins and the book of Revelation.
How do we make ourselves a Whiteheadian proposition? This question exposes the multivalent connections between postmodern thought and Whitehead’s philosophy, with particular attention to his understanding of propositions. Edited by Roland Faber, Michael Halewood, and Andrew M. Davis, Propositions in the Making articulates the newest reaches of Whiteheadian propositions for a postmodern world. It does so by activating interdisciplinary lures of feeling, living, and co-creating the world anew. Rather than a “logical assertion,” Whitehead described a proposition as a “lure for feeling” for a collectivity to come. It cannot be reduced to the verbal content of logical justifications, but rather the feeling content of aesthetic valuations. In creatively expressing these propositions in wide relevance to existential, ethical, educational, theological, aesthetic, technological, and societal concerns, the contributors to this volume enact nothing short of “a Whiteheadian Laboratory.”
This book focuses on the various ways in which debt functions at theological and moral levels to create subjects, with chapters on the biblical jubilee tradition and usury, the gospels, Saint Paul, atonement theories in the early church, Anselm’s satisfaction theory of atonement, and contemporary discussions of debt as a subjective mechanism. Phelps shows that debt and atonement as theological concepts are bound together, so to undermine debt as a subjective mechanism we need to undermine atonement theory as well, by desacralizing the latter. The goal of this book is to disrupt the sovereignty of debt over the creation and maintenance of subjectivity, so that we can think otherwise than and outside of the creditor-debtor relationship, both morally and theologically but also economically. Ultimately, the analysis presented over seven chapters incites us to rethink community and what form social life should take.
