This book publishes the reviewed and revised texts of the papers delivered at the Tenth International Conference on Design Computing – DCC’24 held at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. These papers the range of design research from artificial intelligence, cognitive science, cognitive neuroscience and computational theories applies to design. The papers are published in two volumes and are grouped under the following headings: Design Processes, Design Creativity, Design Cognition, Shape and Form, Design Technology, AI and Design, Design and Brain Behaviors, and Design AI Applications. These two volumes form an archival record of then current cutting-edge research studying design scientifically. They demonstrate the range of approaches being used to characterize designing as a process. At the same time they show that there is a commonality in designing independent of design discipline. Design Thinking: Creativity, Collaboration and Culture

Reconstructing Design, Explaining Artifacts
Technical artifacts are both plain physical objects and objects that have been purposefully made for a purpose; they have a physical structure and a technical function. As a result, they belong equally in a purely physical conceptualization of the world, in which human intentions and goals seem to have no place, and in an intentional conceptualization, which is used to describe and understand people and their mental lives. This book explores how this observation plays out in the contexts of artifact design and explanation of how artifacts fulfill their function. It addresses the following questions: How do designing engineers get from a functional description of desired behavior to the concrete object that is the result of a design process? What do explanations of how an artifact fulfills its function look like and do they differ from explanations of natural systems?

CAAD futures 1997
Since the establishment of the CAAD futures Foundation in 1985 CAAD experts from all over the world meet every two years to present and at the same time document the state of art of research in Computer Aided Architectural Design. The history of CAAD futures started in the Netherlands at the Technical Universities of Eindhoven and Delft, where the CAAD futures Foundation came into being. Then CAAD futures crossed the oceans for the first time, the third CAAD futures in 1989 was held at Harvard University. Next stations in the evolution were in 1991 Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, the ETC, Zürich. In 1993 the conference was organized by Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh and in 1995 by National University, Singapore, CAAD futures 1995 marked the world wide nature by organizing it for the first time in Asia. Proceedings of CAAD futures held biannually provide a complete review of the state of research in Computer Aided Architectural Design.
