Christian Sacred Music in the Americas explores the richness of Christian musical traditions and reflects the distinctive critical perspectives of the Society for Christian Scholarship in Music. This volume, edited by Andrew Shenton and Joanna Smolko, is a follow-up to SCSM’s Exploring Christian Song and offers a cross-section of the most current and outstanding scholarship from an international array of writers. The essays survey a broad geographical area and demonstrate the enormous diversity of music-making and scholarship within that area. Contributors utilize interdisciplinary methodologies including media studies, cultural studies, theological studies, and different analytical and ethnographical approaches to music. Abraham Ens (1826-1911), son of Abraham Ens (b. 1789) and grandson of Johnann Ens (b. 1750), a native of Prussia, and his first wife, Helena Gossen (1825-1864) had five children, 1848-1864. He married 2) Elisabeth Dyck (1835-1895) in 1865. They had five children, 1865-1874. He probably died at Schoenhorst, Russia. His son, Abraham Ens (1865-1935) took his first teaching job at Steinfeld in the Ukraine in 1877. He married Katharina Mantler (1862-1890) in 1884 at NeuChortitza. They had two daughters, 1886-1887. He married 2) Anna Towes (1869-1941), daughter of Abram and Maria Klassen Towes, in 1890 at NeuRosengart. They had twelve children, 1892-1910. The family left Neuhorst, Ukraine, in 1893...

Jacob Harder (1819-1904), son of Peter Harder (1788-1853) and Maria Friesen (1795-1849), married Maria Abrams (1819-1902) in 1839. They had thirteen children. They lived in South Russia. They immigrated to Canada in 1875. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived mainly in Russia, Manitoba, Mexico and Paraguay.
