Die Publikation hat sich die Aufgabe gestellt, die mit dem medialen Wandel einhergehenden sozialisatorischen Veränderungen speziell für Kinder in sozial schwächeren bzw. anregungsärmeren Milieus zu beschreiben und Veränderungen für den Prozess der Sozialisation aufzuzeigen. Dabei geht es in der Untersuchung vor allem darum, das Verhältnis der Medien zu anderen Sozialisationsagenten (vorrangig der Familie) ins Visier zu nehmen und zu eruieren, welche Bedeutung Medien bei der Identitätskonstruktion, dem Aufbau von Wissen und in der Wertevermittlung zukommt. Dies bedeutet zum einen, die durch den Medienwandel mitbestimmten Veränderungen von Sozialisation bei sozial schwächeren Heranwachsenden zu rekonstruieren; zum anderen muss, um auch die Dynamik der Kindheitsentwicklung mitberücksichtigen zu können, vor allem auf die veränderte Rolle der Sozialisationsagenten selbst im Laufe des Sozialisationsprozesses eingegangen werden.(Verlagstext.
