We are pleased to announce the inaugural release of our annual "Current Insights in Epigenetics and Epigenomics" collection in collaboration with the first annual meeting of the Epigenetics Society. The goal of this Research Topic is to shed light on notable progress made in the epigenetics space, and on its future challenges to provide a thorough overview of the field. This article collection will inspire, inform, and provide direction and guidance to researchers in the field. We welcome submissions from our editorial board members, as well as members of the Epigenetics Society, and beyond. We welcome forward-looking contributions from the editorial board, Epigenetic Society members, and conference attendees, that describe the state of the art, outlining recent developments and major accomplishments that have been achieved and that need to occur to move the field forward. Authors are encouraged to identify the greatest challenges in the sub-disciplines, and how to address those challenges.
