It shares Maahs journey from the Upcountry of Abbeville, South Carolina to the Lowcountry of Charleston and the sayings and food that fed their lives. My family loved to cook and share their meals with others and this book incorporates Honey Beas familys recipes for simple meals from days gone by and their sayings, and stories for wisdom along with the Gullah Geechie heritage. At the end, I want to encourage you to research, preserve, write and publish your own familys story.

This picturesque book, Contradiction: The Controversies of the Joy and Pain of Living in South Carolina, deals with the tragic events and the elements of racism that happened in Charleston and North Charleston during the year 2015 as she attempts to give a birds-eye view into this as well as the history of the racism of decades and even centuries. It is the authors hope that by bringing more light to this subject, all will work harder to resolve racial issues so that something as tragic as what happened at the Emanuel AME Church, where someone just randomly chose to massacre a group based solely on their race, will never happen again. She also gives a small sample of the joy of South Carolina by sharing poetry dedicated to her heritage.

This colorful story book for readers of all ages is based on the life experiences of a Gullah-Geechee little girl and her family. She grew up in the town of Mount Pleasant, where it seemed to her as a child, like the whole long stretch of Highway 17 was lined up with the sweetgrass basket makers' stands of her grandparents' friends and family. Those days are gone, and the majority of the basket stands are gone too. In order to keep that era alive for those to come, the author shares this story that involves a child named "Meskenettie," whose family have lived in the town for hundreds of years. This is her story of the history of Mount Pleasant from a Gullah-Geechee child's view. It includes historical facts and the notions of the author.
