As part of the ISOCARP 50th anniversary programme, the publication of Ten Years of UPATs: Reflections and Results is certainly one of the "flagship" activities of ISOCARP. We have to thank the editors and authors, as well as all the members of the Urban Planning Advisory Teams who contributed to the impressive quality of this publication. The initiation of the UPATs was a turning point in the activities of ISOCARP as a professional organisation. Instead of limiting its role to reflecting on activities, it turned into a pro-active organisation intervening in the real world, rather than serving only as a consultant. The UPATs try to "open eyes and doors", to think and act in other directions, ...
The five-volume set LNCS 6782 - 6786 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the International Conference on Computational Science and Its Applications, ICCSA 2011, held in Santander, Spain, in June 2011. The five volumes contain papers presenting a wealth of original research results in the field of computational science, from foundational issues in computer science and mathematics to advanced applications in virtually all sciences making use of computational techniques. The topics of the fully refereed papers are structured according to the five major conference themes: geographical analysis, urban modeling, spatial statistics; cities, technologies and planning; computational geometry and applications; computer aided modeling, simulation, and analysis; and mobile communications.
This volume explores the new paradigm of the Digital City as being simultaneously a past and a contemporary entity.
The collapse of previous command economic structures in Eastern Europe has led to an often chaotic reorganization of transport operations. Southeastern Europe in particular not only lags behind the western EU countries in terms of transport infrastructure, but also in terms of management and policy. However, despite this, or perhaps even because there are no long-standing established patterns, this region is a fertile territory for innovation. Based on the first major international conference dealing with transport issues in Southeastern Europe, this edited volume brings together key researchers and policy makers to discuss and critically analyse these innovations. Focusing on issues related...
In recent years many countries have experienced an increase in spatial problems that has led to planning crises. The use of modern planning technologies, such as geographical information systems and remote sensing, gives us new potential to monitor and prevent environmental degradation. Effective strategies for management should consider sustainable development and planning and emphasise the need to handle these matters in an integrated way. These volumes contain the contributions presented at the Second International Conference on Sustainable Development and Planning which deal with the following topics: City planning; Environmental impact assessment; Environmental legislation and policy; Environmental management; Waste management; Resources management; Geo-informatics; Transportation; Ecosystems analysis, protection and remediation; Regional planning; Rural development; A Multidisciplinary approach to territorial
