Innovation in Commoditized Service Industries
The passenger airline industry is a prominent service industry that is becoming increasingly commoditized. As little empirical work in this field exists, this study contributes to research by exploring how passenger airlines leverage innovation in such market conditions from a strategic and organizational view. Comprehensive case studies of a sample of eight passenger airlines constitute the empirical basis. The analysis detects patterns of innovations and draws conclusions on the strategic innovation behavior in the airline industry. The study proposes an organizational concept and a strategic approach for airlines to innovate in an increasingly commoditized market.

Determinants and Consequences of the Use of Budgets
The alteration of the business environment has heightened the role of management accounting and control systems (MACS). Not only the design of MACS has gained increased relevance but also the ways in which MACS are used. Based upon empirical data from 69 German manufacturing companies of different industries testing the developed research model, the evidence reinforces the knowledge concerning budgets and their use and essentially bridges the gap in understanding the relationship between budgeting and strategy by revealing the positive effects formal MACS perform. Business Performance Measurement in the Metal Finishing Industry
Criticism has indicated that inadequate academic observance has been spent on the adaption and implementation of generic Business Performance Measurement (BPM) models to specific industry and company contexts leading to a suboptimal practical feasibility. In reflecting these concerns, an approach to improve BPM feasibility is developed based on an industry's specific characteristics. These characteristics are then linked to corresponding generic BPM models. In this vein, practitioners shall be assisted in designing and implementing a sustainable BPM system.
