This edited volume contains reports of current research, and literature reviews of research, involving self-efficacy in various instructional technology contexts. The chapters represent international perspectives across the broad areas of K- 12 education, higher education, teacher self-efficacy, and learner self-efficacy to capture a diverse cross section of research on these topics. The book includes reviews of existing literature and reports of new research, thus creating a comprehensive resource for researchers and designers interested in this general topic. The book is especially relevant to students and researchers in educational technology, instructional technology, instructional design, learning sciences, and educational psychology.
This book offers comprehensive insight into recent advances in geopolymer composites and emerging processing technologies such as 3D printing that offer promising application prospects in a wide range of industries. • Covers novel applications of geopolymers and composites in industries such as fire retardation coatings, refractory materials, water treatment, and marine structures. • Offers guidance on joint treatment of industrial waste acids and solid wastes. • Describes energy consumption, carbon emissions, and costs for various compositions of geopolymers, which provide an effective basis for industrialization. • Provides guidance for design and preparation of geopolymer products based on typical local wastes. With topical coverage that will help readers make full use of local resources and promote the sustainable development of enterprises, this reference is aimed at those working with new materials for refractory, construction and building, civil engineering, and water treatment, among others.
How many of us have the courage to leave our comfort zone to fearlessly become the people we believe ourselves to be? Do we pretend that we are capable of big things yet find ourselves caught up in the smaller things in life’s mad race? Do we cling to “being too busy”, “schedules”, and a ton of other excuses based on our supposed priorities? Have we buried our gifts and talents in fear of not making enough to live if we were to use them? Have we carelessly forfeited our choices due to our inability to stand up for what we were born to do? Do we postpone our hearts’ dreams because they seem too overwhelming or do we give them a 110 percent shot at succeeding? Building idealistic g...
This book covers developments in multi-scale and multifunctional coatings, including strategies in the preparation, characterization, and properties of both thin and thick multifunctional coatings along with their corresponding application. Various technologies for processing, characterization, and tribology effects of various coating surfaces and interfaces are discussed. It describes smart surfaces like piezoelectric materials, shape memory alloys, shape memory ceramics, magnetostrictive materials, electrostrictive materials, dielectric materials, and advanced ceramics. Explains multifunctional materials with respect to their tribology behavior at surface and interface. Covers analysis techniques for multifunctional surfaces and interfaces. Discusses emerging applications of multifunctional surfaces. Explores multifunctionality of thin films as well as thick coatings. This book is aimed at graduate students and researchers in metallurgical engineering, materials science, and nanosciences.

The troubled borderland of Pakistan and Afghanistan the so-called AfPak region is one of the most dangerous areas of the world. Between 2006 and 2010 David L. Gosling lived in Peshawar, the provincial capital of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, where he was principal of Edwardes College, a prestigious higher education college, affiliated with the University of Peshawar. In this book, Gosling describes his time at Edwardes College and the challenges and changes of his tenure. Already the first co-educational college in the province, Gosling significantly increased the proportion of female students and staff. The book also describes the early stages of Taliban growth in Afghanistan, its spill-over into the tribal borderlands of Pakistan and how a combination of Pakistan army activity and US drone strikes provoked a furious backlash by Taliban groups against civilian targets in and around Peshawar, including death threats against the author. Providing a personal account of the education and politics of this frontier region, this book offers a unique viewpoint on a part of the world which is often misunderstood."
