This collection of essays concentrates on Arab-American writer and artist Etel Adnan. Up until now, there has been no single volume dedicated to her work despite Adnan's increasing recognition and acclaim across the United States, Europe, and the Middle East. The essays fall into two sections. In the first, the essays respond to the range of vision and experience in Adnan's writing and art through analysis and appreciation. The second section focuses on responses to and interpretations of Sitt Marie Rose, Adnan's well known novel about the Lebanese war. As a whole, the writings in this work seek to provide a comprehensive look at Adnan's literary and artistic accomplishments through analysis and close readings that place her texts within wider literary contexts.
Child Marriage in Humanitarian Settings in the Arab Region
This study tackles the issue of female child marriage in the Arab region, particularly in conflict and humanitarian settings. It explores the causes of this problem, with a distinction between such structural determinants as family and community relations and gender roles that have long been present in many Arab countries, and such contextual determinants as instability, displacement and extreme poverty. It also investigates the economic and health effects of child marriage, for young brides, their children and their communities, especially in post-conflict contexts. The study also provides an overview of national obligations with regard to preventing child marriage, as stipulated by international instruments and humanitarian laws. It concludes with policy recommendations to address the multifaceted dimensions of child marriage and its implications for the rights of the girl-child.

"Access to justice is not only a right in and of itself, applicable in all contexts and for all people; it is a requisite for the achievement of equality and human rights. Yet Arab women face persistent inequalities rooted in discriminatory laws and institutions, which prevent them from accessing judicial processes to obtain just remedy for violations of their rights. This study examines women's right of access to justice in the Arab region, focusing on citizens and non-citizens, refugees and migrant workers, and women in minority groups. This study assesses the legal, institutional and structural impediments and challenges facing women's access to justice in the region. It analyses the extent to which national legal frameworks meet the requirements set forth in ratified international human rights treaties and reviews the measures currently taken by Arab Governments to improve the availability, accessibility, adaptability and affordability of women's access to justice.
