Current Endourology

This book brings the reader up-to-date in the field of endourology which is continually evolving with the development of new techniques and technologies. The book covers the management of urolithiasis, or kidney stones with techniques such as extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL), ureteroscopy, and percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) – all commonly used to treat kidney and ureteral stones; it offers guidance on diagnosing and treating conditions affecting the prostate and bladder with techniques such as transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) and transurethral resection of bladder tumors (TURBT), common procedures for conditions such as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and bladder cancer; high-quality endoscopic imaging technologies, including flexible and rigid endoscopes to assist in diagnosis and treatment; laser technology; robot-assisted endourology; uteroscopy, for the diagnosis and treatment of upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC). This book offers a multi-disciplinary approach to endourology, promoting collaboration among urologists, radiologists, anesthesiologists, and nurses.

The Evolution of Minimally Invasive Urologic Surgery: Innovations, Challenges, and Opportunities

Minimally invasive urologic surgery has undergone a revolutionary transformation in recent years, driven by technological advancements and a growing emphasis on patient-centred care. This has led to the emergence of new minimally invasive surgical techniques (MISTs) for the treatment of benign and malignant urologic conditions, as well as the adoption of novel technologies such as lasers and robotic systems. Laparoscopy and robotic surgery have become the cornerstone of pelvic and upper tract oncology, providing a less invasive alternative to traditional open surgery. Robotic prostatectomy, brachytherapy, radiotherapy, cryotherapy, and high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) are now commonly used for the treatment of prostate cancer. Robotic partial nephrectomy and cryotherapy have similarly transformed the management of renal cancer, while robotic cystectomy and en-bloc resection of bladder cancer have emerged as promising treatments for muscle-invasive bladder cancer.

Textbook of Gastrointestinal Oncology

This textbook discusses core principles and practices in gastrointestinal oncology and covers a wide range of practice areas such as pathology and radiologic images, epidemiology, genetics, staging, multidisciplinary management of specific gastrointestinal cancer, and pathology for each primary tumor site. The comprehensive coverage makes Textbook of Gastrointestinal Oncology a useful resource for the practitioner wishing to gain a greater understanding of the principles of managing malignant gastrointestinal disease, as well as medical oncology fellows, surgeons, radiation oncologists, gastroenterologists and fellows, and residents.

Abstract: Laser endoscopic enucleation of the prostate (EEP) for benign prostatic obstruction has become increasingly prevalent worldwide. Considering the medical cost-savings and concomitantly fewer nosocomial infections, the feasibility of same-day postoperative discharge of patients who have undergone laser EEP in terms of its safety and effectiveness has become a subject matter of growing interest. We aimed to review those studies focussing on day-case surgery (DCS) in patients undergoing laser EEP

Abstract: Background: The stricture-formation rate following ureteroscopy ranges from 0.5 to 5% and might amount to 24% in patients with impacted ureteral stones. The pathogenesis of ureteral stricture formation is not yet fully understood. It is likely that the patient and stone characteristics, as well as intervention factors, play a role in this process. In this systematic review, we aimed to determine the potential factors responsible for ureteral stricture formation in patients having impacted ureteral stones. Methods: Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) criteria, we conducted systematic online research through PubMed and Web of Scie...
