Care Communication
This book studies communication in institutional eldercare. It is based on audio-recorded interactions between residents and staff in a Japanese care facility. The focus is on the morning care routines, which include getting the residents out of bed and ready for the day. Combining quantitative and qualitative methods, the analysis explores the characteristics of care communication as they become manifest in the interactional small print. Topics include the use of terms of address and formal speech, the basic organisation of openings and closings, the difficulties of talking while working—and, at times, working while talking—and tempo differences between residents and staff as they move along between bed and breakfast. The research findings are contextualised with results from previous studies, tracing significant features and explanation for deviant cases. The author is a trained linguist and certified nursing assistant with first-hand working experience in institutional eldercare.

Developmental and Clinical Pragmatics
This handbook provides a comprehensive and up-to-date survey of a wide range of developmental and clinical issues in pragmatics. Principally, the contributions to this volume deal with pragmatic competence in a native language, in a second or foreign language, and in a selection of language disorders. The topics which are covered explore questions of production and comprehension on the utterance and discourse level. Topics addressed concern the acquisition and learning, teaching and testing, assessment and treatment of various aspects of pragmatic ability, knowledge and use. These include, for example, the acquisition and development of speech acts, implicatures, irony, story-telling and interactional competence. Phenomena such as pragmatic awareness and pragmatic transfer are also addressed. The disorders considered include clinical conditions pertaining to children and to adults. Specifically, these are, among others, autism spectrum disorders, Down syndrome, and Alzheimer's disease.

Crash" zeigt einen Autounfall, in welchen Christine (Thandie Newton) verwickelt ist. In dieser Ausarbeitung soll diese Szene analysiert und die filmischen Mittel herausgearbeitet werden. Der Film verdeutlicht durch die Metaphern Metall und Glas, dass heutzutage eine Berührungsarmut zwischen Menschen verschiedener ethnischer Herkunft in der Gesellschaft herrscht. Zwar leben immer mehr Menschen verschiedener Ethnien zusammen in einer Stadt, doch eine wirkliche Verschmelzung hat es bisher nicht gegeben. Dies wird zum Beispiel durch die verschiedenen Stadtteile in Städten wie Los Angeles deutlich, in welchen die verschiedenen Ethnien in gewisser Weise immer noch getrennt leben. In L.A. Crash wird diese Tatsache der Berührungsarmut sehr gut deutlich und die Fremdartigkeit der verschiedenen Mentalitäten und Kulturen kommt ausgezeichnet zum Vorschein.
