This is the story of Jiang Qing, who started her career as a second-rate actress in 1930s Shanghai. She was known for living a bohemian, somewhat scandalous lifestyle. When the Japanese attacked in 1937, she left Shanghai for Yanan, the communist base, where she became Mao Zedong's fourth wife. In the 1960s she helped Mao launch the Cultural Revolution and became one of the most influential women in the world.
