Women Artists in the Early Modern Courts of Europe
Women Artists in the Early Modern Courts of Europe, c. 1450.1700 presents the first collection of essays dedicated to women as producers of visual and material culture in the Early Modern European courts, offering fresh insights into the careers of, among others, Caterina van Hemessen, Sofonisba Anguissola, Luisa Roldán, and Diana Mantuana. Also considered are groups of female makers, such as ladies-in-waiting at the seventeenth-century Medici court. Chapters address works by women who occupied a range of social and economic positions within and around the courts and across media, including paintings, sculpture, prints, and textiles. Both individually and collectively, the texts deepen understanding of the individual artists and courts highlighted and, more broadly, consider the variety of experiences of female makers across traditional geographic and chronological distinctions. The book is also accompanied by the Global Makers: Women Artists in the Early Modern Courts digital humanities project (www.globalmakers.ua.edu), extending and expanding the work begun here.
Theorising the Artist Interview
Reflecting on the relationship between artists and their audiences, this book examines how artists have presented themselves publicly through interviews and sought to establish a critical voice for themselves. Considering the interview as a form of cultural production, contributors explore the criteria for determining the artist interview as a distinct field of research in relation to other cultural fields. Structured in four parts, ‘History and Historiography’, ‘Subverting the Biographical Model’, ‘Interviews as Practice’ and ‘Materiality and Technology’, the book takes an interdisciplinary approach that encompasses the fields of art history, fine art, oral history, curating, media studies and museum conservation. By theorising the artist interview as a form of cultural production and embracing it as a co-constructed critical practice, this volume aims to show and encourage an approach to art history which dismantles old hierarchies in favour of valuing dialogue and collaboration. The book will be of interest to scholars working in art history, museum studies, oral history and historiography.

Sculpture in the Augmented Sphere
Mara-Johanna Kölmel explores the profound impact of digital technologies on the field of sculpture since the 1950s. When artists create their works using AI, custom software, or prototyping technologies, how should we be rethinking the concept of sculpture? Through the works of Morehshin Allahyari, Alice Channer, and Sterling Crispin, as well as an inter-generational group of artists, she examines how plasticity, corporeality, and monumentality have been transformed by the digital. Introducing concepts such as more-than-human corporeality, digital plasticity, and nomadic monumentality, the book encourages a re-evaluation of the sculptural. Systematically and transhistorically, the author connects research perspectives on sculpture and digital media, highlighting how the understanding of the sculptural has evolved into the (post-)digital age.

Das Bauhaus stellte durch den Anspruch, Welt umfassend zu gestalten und aus den Künsten heraus pädagogisch zu handeln, Architektur, Design, Kunst und Pädagogik in einen untrennbaren Zusammenhang. Die Wirkungen dieses tiefgreifenden Reformwillens sind auch hundert Jahre nach der Gründung noch erkennbar in Kunst, Architektur, Design und gegenwärtigen Prozessen der ästhetischen Bildung erkennbar. Diese Resonanz des Bauhauses ist Gegenstand des vorliegenden Bandes. Aus den Perspektiven von Kunst- und Designgeschichte, Kunstpädagogik und Erziehungswissenschaft reflektieren die unterschiedlichen Beiträge das Bauhaus in Bezug auf die Aspekte: Populärkulturelle Rezeption, Erziehung durch Gestaltung, Material in der Lehre sowie das Bauhaus als regulative Idee im digitalen Zeitalter.
