British Art and the Environment
This book explores the nature of Britain-based artists’ engagement with the transformations of their environment since the early days of the Industrial Revolution. At a time of pressing ecological concerns, the international group of contributors provide a series of case studies that reconsider the nature–culture divide and aim at identifying the contours of a national narrative that stretches from enclosed lands to rising seas. By adopting a longer historical view, this book hopes to enrich current debates concerning art’s engagement with recording and questioning the impact of human activity on the environment. The book will be of interest to scholars working in art history, contemporary art, environmental humanities, and British studies.
Rewriting/Reprising in Literature
This volumes includes a series of 17 selected essays, preceded by a methodological introduction, whose purpose is to offer a fresh outlook on the question of rewriting-reprising. The argument, taking for granted the phenomenon of intertextuality, develops along three main axes: the first one reconsiders the already debated issue of authority on post-structuralist premises, arguing that the origin of a text is untraceable. The second looks at a phenomenon often associated with reprising, especially in a post-colonial context: trauma, whether individual or historical, in relation to creative repetition. A la suite du volume consacré à L'intime et ses frontières (2012), l'enquête se poursuit sur le périmètre de l'intime, s'intéressant à ce que deviennent à l'époque contemporaine les rapports entre l'intime et le spirituel. Ce volume réunit des chercheurs qui ont réfléchi ensemble sur une nouvelle configuration du spirituel: bien que relégué dans la sphère intime, le spirituel est perçu comme une forme de relation profonde à l'altérité, au mystère et à cette part de soi et du monde qui échappe.

The dialogues between the past and the present help the artist examine his own art, making him conscious of his position in the field, whether through self-evaluation, renewal or experiment with new textualities. This book explores how the strategies reflecting the exchanges between past and present modes of artistic production become active agents of intervention in creating the various spaces of dialogue and confrontation when establishing the identities and cultural specificity of a certain society or community.
Nature and Space in Contemporary Scottish Writing and Art
This book examines how contemporary Scottish writers and artists revisit and reclaim nature in the political and aesthetic context of devolved Scotland. Camille Manfredi investigates the interaction of landscape aesthetics and strategies of spatial representation in Scotland’s twenty-first-century literature and arts, focusing on the apparatuses designed by nature writers, poets, performers, walking artists and visual artists to physically and intellectually engage with the land and re-present it to themselves and to the world. Through a comprehensive analysis of a variety of site-specific artistic practices, artworks and publications, this book investigates the works of Scotland-based artists including Linda Cracknell, Kathleen Jamie, Thomas A. Clark, Gerry Loose, John Burnside, Alec Finlay, Hamish Fulton, Hanna Tuulikki and Roseanne Watt, with a view to exploring the ongoing re-invention of a territory-bound identity that dwells on an inclusive sense of place, as well as ona complex renegotiation with the time and space of Scotland.

L'art de très près
Que se passe-t-il lorsqu'on regarde une peinture de très près, l'œil presque contre la toile ou quand, tel Swann, on prête l'oreille à quelques notes ou à une phrase musicale? Peut-on distinguer différents degrés de proximité du regard, de l'écoute, du sentir? Sans résulter des regards rapprochés qu'on lui prête, une œuvre se nourrit de ces rapprochements autant qu'elle les sollicite. Fictions en quête d'auteur
Depuis la fin du XXe siècle, la proclamation de la mort de l'auteur a remis en cause son autorité mais il conserve pourtant une fonction de premier plan dans la littérature.
