Inspecting the Interview
Interviews are omnipresent in scholarship and public discourses. They play a crucial role in various spheres, from collecting research data to providing persons in the public eye a platform in print and online media. Interviews do not only capture a dialogue; they provide a framework in which dialogue gets staged. As such a framework, the interview protocols experiential knowledge and personal experience in certain ways, according interlocutors different degrees of authority to speak. The volume contributes state-of-the-art research on what conclusions can be drawn from these and further reflections for a general assessment of the interview as method and form; it offers fundamental conceptualizations of the interview as a structured and mediated site of knowledge production. Theoreticians and practitioners assembled here conceptualize the interview from perspectives in different fields of the humanities and social sciences such as linguistics, literary and cultural studies, musicology, psychology, and philosophy.

Vulnerability
This collection presents studies on a wide range of discursive positions marked by vulnerability and investigates the functions of (self-)positioning actors as vulnerable in contemporary social discourses. As a phenomenon that manifests itself in different social arenas, vulnerable positions and instances of (self-)positioning indicate various crisis situations on a broad spectrum of phenomena, of manifestations and implications. Starting from the assumption that vulnerable (self-)positioning and stance-taking is manifested at the level of discursive practices, performative processes and material achievements, the contributors describe a series of mechanisms of staging vulnerability in a wide range of manifestations: among them physical, psychological, social, sexual and gender, linguistic, and institutional vulnerability.
Spaces of Dissension
This volume focusses on contradiction as a key concept in the Humanities and Social Sciences. By bringing together theoretical and empirical contributions from a broad disciplinary spectrum, the volume advances research in contradiction and on contradictory phenomena, laying the foundations for a new interdisciplinary field of research: Contradiction Studies. Frederick William IV and the Prussian Monarchy, 1840-1861
This is the first full-scale study in English of the reign of Frederick William IV, King of Prussia from 1840 to 1861, and arguably the most important German monarch in the century between the death of Frederick the Great and the accession of William II. Although Frederick William has long been criticized as a Romantic reactionary who was utterly out of touch with his times, this study reaches different conclusions, arguing that he was in fact a modern and in many ways, 'successful' monarch.The book is not a biography in the traditional sense. Rather, it focuses on the structures, institutions and transformations of the monarchial system in Prussia during a time of revolutionary change. It thus represents a contribution to our understanding of the structures of the nineteenth-century European state, and the strategies by which conservative elites were able to adjust themselves to new circumstances.
