Romantik 4
Romantik: Journal for the Study of Romanticisms includes new research articles on Byron's The Giaour, on spatial memory in Wordsworth and Rousseau, on how the city of Brighton was represented in the early nineteenth century as a centre of fashion, polite sociability, and consumerism, on the construction of a romantic canon in the Faroe Islands, and on Rome as the incubator for romantic artists forming friendships and cultivating artistic communities. Moreover,the issue features reviews of new books published in Scandinavia on the romantic era. Romantik is a multidisciplinary journal dedicated to the study of romantic-era cultural productions and concepts. Romantik is interested in all European and Nordic romanticisms, and not least the connections and disconnections between them - hence, the use of the plural in the subtitle.

Van Gogh's Sunflowers Illuminated
Vincent van Gogh's Sunflowers are seen by many as icons of Western European art. Two of these masterpieces — the first version painted in August 1888 (The National Gallery, London) and the painting made after it in January 1889 (Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam) — have been the subject of a detailed comparison by an interdisciplinary team of experts. The pictures were examined in unprecedented depth using a broad array of techniques, including state-of-the-art, non-invasive imaging analytical methods, to look closely at and under the paint surface. Not only the making, but also the subsequent history of the works was reconstructed, including later campaigns of restoration. The study's conclusions are set out in this book, along with the fascinating genesis of the paintings and the sunflower's special significance to Van Gogh. More than 30 authors, all specialists in the field of conservation, conservation science and art history, have contributed to the research and publication presenting the outcomes of this unique project.
The Lemen Family Tree
James Lemen (b. 1687) married Jane Burns. They had four sons. Traces the descendants of two of their sons, John (1715-1774) and Nicholas (1725-1761). William M. Lemen (1756-1809) was John's son and Robert Lemen IV (1751-1827) was Nicholas' son. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Virginia and West Virginia.
Renoir

Hugh Lane

Van Gogh

The challenges of depicting fields provide keys to understanding the development of Van Gogh's unique creative process.
