This book is an outcome of the workshop on water demand forecasting in 1985. It summarises the 'state-of-the-art' in water demand forecasting, and identifies some of its links with environmental issues. The book discusses some of the issues raised in more detail and provides case studies.
Supply of sufficient clean drinking water is often taken for granted, but it requires a considerable technical and financial effort to ensure reliable and economic water supply. This volume presents an up-to-date overview of water supply management and aims at efficient management of water supply schemes rather than design of new works. Various chapters of the book are devoted to water demands, management of reservoirs and conjunctive use of alternative sources. Asset management and loss control are also considered. Water quality and provision of water to developing communities are also discussed. Water supply management is of concern to developed urban environments as well as developing communities. The book will be equally valuable to the practising water engineer and the newcomer or graduate student in the subject.
Proceedings of the 17th Annual National Conference of the Water Resources Planning and Management Division of the ASCE. Papers focus upon innovative applications leading to an optimization of existing resources for water management. Sessions took up such matters as forecasting, computer uses, regional water supply, urban water resources management, distribution, system operation of reservoirs, flood damage analysis and reduction, new technologies, groundwater, flood control, drought management. Self-tuning controllers automatically adjust, or tune, themselves to achieve prespecified objectives related to the process, or system, to be controlled.
The two volumes of this set are based on the proceedings of the De Montfort University conference, Integrated Computer Applications for Water Supply and Distribution 1993. This volume shows how advanced computer techniques can be applied within the water industry.
Computing and Control for the Water Industry, written by experts in the research and industrial communities, describes the latest in techniques and methodologies for computer modelling, monitoring and control of water distribution systems, canals and reservoirs.
