Lacroix and the Calculus
Silvestre François Lacroix was not a prominent mathematical researcher, but he was certainly a most influential mathematical book author. His most famous work is the three-volume Traité du calcul différentiel et du calcul intégral, which is an encyclopedic appraisal of 18th-century calculus that remained the standard reference on the subject through much of the 19th century. This book provides the first global and detailed study of Lacroix's Traité Traité du calcul.

Realism is an artistic practice that aims to faithfully represent reality. Historically, it has been practiced across different media, from early pictorial art and epic oral narratives, through literature and visual arts, to film, music, and digital media. Louise Von François and Die Letzte Reckenburgerin
Although nearly forgotten today, Louise von François (1817-1893) enjoyed until the collapse of the Weimar Republic a reputation as one of Germany's outstanding women writers. Her life and work provide a fruitful testing ground for current feminist methodologies and theories. This study examines François's literary career as an example of the «anxiety of authorship, » presents a reading of François's finest novel, Die letzte Reckenburgerin (1870), and traces the reception of that novel.
