Medical Image Computing and Computer-Assisted Intervention - MICCAI 2011
The three-volume set LNCS 6891, 6892 and 6893 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 14th International Conference on Medical Image Computing and Computer-Assisted Intervention, MICCAI 2011, held in Toronto, Canada, in September 2011. Based on rigorous peer reviews, the program committee carefully selected 251 revised papers from 819 submissions for presentation in three volumes. The first volume includes 86 papers organized in topical sections on robotics, localization and tracking and visualization, planning and image guidance, physical modeling and simulation, motion modeling and compensation, and segmentation and tracking in biological images.

3D Printing
This book, "3D Printing", is divided into two parts: the first part is devoted to the relationship between 3D printing and engineering, and the second part shows the impact of 3D printing on the medical sector in general. There are five sections in the first part (sections are dedicated to stereolithography, new techniques of high-resolution 3D printing, application of 3D printers in architecture and civil engineering, the additive production with the metal components and the management of production by using previously mentioned technology in more complex ways). There are four chapters in the second part with the following topics: education of medical staff through surgical simulations, tissue engineering and potential applications of 3D printing in ophthalmology and orthopedics.

Computer-Assisted Musculoskeletal Surgery
Computer-Assisted Surgery (CAS) is a new tool for performing complex procedures in a predictable and safe way. This book is designed to serve as a comprehensive review of Computer-Assisted Surgery, covering the current status of both research and applications. CAS includes Virtual Preoperative Planning (VPP) and Intraoperative Virtual Navigation (IVN), which are a set of technologies used to measure oncological margins in 3-Dimensions (3D), to locate small intraosseous tumors and apply controlled resections preserving anatomical structures. During VPP, patient acquired multimodal images are processed and an interactive virtual scenario is created. This can then be used as a platform to measure oncological distances and preplan osteotomies in safe areas. IVN is a procedure which allows the execution of the VPP with a mean error of less than 3mm. For the student, medical doctors, research and development scientists or new researchers, the protocols are central to the performance of Computer-Assisted technologies.
