Although he has traveled and painted throughout the world, John Emmett Connors has returned time and again to paint the houses, buildings, and neighborhoods of his hometown, Troy, New York. An essential and unique contribution to the social organizational literature, Casebook of Management for Nonprofit Organizations highlights the importance of good management to human service organizations. Author Dennis Young uses case studies that stress entrepreneurship and are addressed to particular aspects of human services management--the processes of new program development and the management of organization change. Written in nontechnical, readable language, the cases deal with a wide array of types of organizational change, ranging from development of new programs to the birth of new organizations, the merger of organizations, and the expansion and diversification of the service offerings of various agencies. Moreover, the cases touch on many other intrinsic aspects of organizational administration including management of professionals and other staff, working with trustees, financing programs through government and private sources, coping with governmental regulatory processes, and managing relationships with organizational clients and constituent groups.

The Uses of Reform is a study of the Reformation as a movement for behavioral reform, concentrating on Scotland during the first fifty years (1560-1610) of its Reformation as a primary example. The opening chapters trace the development of "Godly Discipline" as part of the European-wide reform movement. Graham follows this general narrative with a study of the creation and implementation of a disciplinary system in Scotland. Finally, he compares disciplinary practices in the Scottish Church with those of the Huguenot communities of France. Looking closely at the proceedings of church courts which enforced regulations concerning behavior, Graham paints a picture of the Reformation as a social process. This book, the first of its kind in the historiography of the Scottish Reformation, explores how Reformed protestantism affected local communities and redefined relationships.
