They called him Chief. After almost seventeen years in the United States Navy, the United States Army wanted him for duty in Vietnam. There would be live ammunition and dead soldiers, but Thomas J. Highstreet, Warrant Officer 1, wasn't going to waste his energy as a newly appointed warrant officer on matters not within his control. He had only a few years left in his military career and had no intention of allowing them to slip by without a total commitment to the duty he had accepted. He fully believed he would not die trying, he would live doing. He was ready, and, he would survive. He was a warrior.
