Encounters Beyond the Gallery
Encounters Beyond the Gallery challenges the terms of their exclusion, looking to relational art, Deleuze-Guattarean aesthetics and notions of perception, as well as anthropological theory for ways to create connections between seemingly disparate worlds. Embracing a unique and experimental format, the book imagines encounters between the art works and art worlds of Rirkrit Tiravanija, Tamil women, the Shipibo-Conibo of Eastern Peru and a fictional female contemporary artist named Rikki T, in order to rethink normative aesthetic and cultural categories. Its method reflects the message of the book, and embraces a plurality of voices and perspectives to steer critical attention towards the complexity of artistic life beyond the gallery.
Parallel Scientific Computing
This volume presents the proceedings of the First International workshop on Parallel Scientific Computing, PARA '94, held in Lyngby, Denmark in June 1994. It reports interdisciplinary work done by mathematicians, scientists and engineers working on large-scale computational problems in discussion with computer science specialists in the field of parallel methods and the efficient exploitation of modern high-performance computing resources. The 53 full refereed papers provide a wealth of new results: an up-to-date overview on high-speed computing facilities, including different parallel and vector computers as well as workstation clusters, is given and the most important numerical algorithms, with a certain emphasis on computational linear algebra, are investigated.

A Permeability of Boundaries?
Art, religion and folklore have always been at the fringes of archaeological research. The assumption is often made that they have little to do with social processes and their reciprocation; at the very least they might passively reflect the social. The papers in this volume challenge this view and firmly locate art, religion and folklore in active social relations. Thus, many of the papers challenge the orthodox, the conventional and the mainstream: they reinstate the themes of art, religion and folklore at the centre of archaeological enquiry. Each chapter has the central theme of 'permeability', from the transgression of disciplinary or theoretical boundaries and examination of liminal archaeological contexts to the fluidity of altered states of consciousness and permeation of what is conventionally deemed 'acceptable' research. In so doing, the volume demonstrates that by challenging the orthodox and deconstructing rigidity, new and thought-provoking approaches to art, religion and folklore emerge.
