The Routledge Handbook of Ethics in Forensic Linguistics

  • Categories: Law

The Routledge Handbook of Ethics in Forensic Linguistics is the first comprehensive reference work to explore the ethical dimensions of forensic language analysis across a range of applied and academic contexts. With the use of linguistic and phonetic evidence now commonplace in legal investigations and court proceedings, questions of consent, bias, responsibility, and professional integrity have become increasingly urgent. This volume brings together over 30 original chapters by leading scholars and practitioners in forensic linguistics and speech science to critically examine these issues. Chapters span a wide range of research and practice settings, from expert testimony and investigative consultancy to academic publishing, teaching, and public engagement. This handbook addresses ethical questions across diverse linguistic and legal systems and offers both conceptual frameworks and practical guidance for navigating the ethical challenges of forensic language work. This authoritative resource is essential reading for researchers, practitioners, and students in applied linguistics, sociolinguistics, phonetics, criminology, psychology, and legal studies.

The Ayin

I wrote The Ayin in the second half of 1995 and the beginning of 1996 while I was living in London, England. A number of mishaps over the ensuing years prevented me from further working on the book until the fall of 1999, and since then everything has moved at a rapid pace culminating with the publication of the book in May 2000 by Xlibris. The story could be considered a cyberpunk tale of sorts, but unlike many such books, it has a firm basis in science and includes a number of items that could be (and surely will be) manufactured in the not-too-distant future. My main focus is on the potential effect that the future of artificial intelligence will have upon our understanding of ourselves and existence in general. Some may argue that I have broken the rules of science as it is currently understood with where I take the story, but I believe time will bear out the conclusions I have drawn about the real potential inherent within quantum physics. Above all else, I hope everyone who reads the book finds it enjoyable and if it can also make you think in the process, all the better! Thanks.

Technological advances, although beneficial and progressive, can lead to vulnerabilities in system networks and security. While researchers attempt to find solutions, negative uses of technology continue to create new security threats to users. New Threats and Countermeasures in Digital Crime and Cyber Terrorism brings together research-based chapters and case studies on security techniques and current methods being used to identify and overcome technological vulnerabilities with an emphasis on security issues in mobile computing and online activities. This book is an essential reference source for researchers, university academics, computing professionals, and upper-level students interested in the techniques, laws, and training initiatives currently being implemented and adapted for secure computing.

The Roman Baths of Lycia

This volume examines the arrival and development of a distinctively Roman building type in an area of southwest Turkey where the numerous cities, who were highly competitive in their public building, left a remarkable wealth of ancient remains. Many new plans and photographs represent the full range of Lycian bath buildings. The building techniques employed and how Roman bathing habits fitted into the sporting life of Asia Minor under the Empire are also explored.
