This book presents the proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Engineering, Project, and Product Management (EPPM 2017), highlighting the importance of engineering, project and product management in a region of the world that is in need of transformation and rebuilding. The aim of the conference was to bring together the greatest minds in engineering and management and offer them a platform to share their innovative, and potentially transformational, findings. The proceedings are comprehensive, multidisciplinary, and advanced in their approach with an appeal not only for academicians and university students but also for professionals in various engineering fields, especially construction, manufacturing and production.
This book examines how post-transcriptional mechanisms control endocrine function. This includes newly identified regulatory mechanisms involved in hormone biosynthesis, control of hormone receptors and the outputs of hormone mediated signal transduction. Chapters address endocrine hormones including protein peptide/peptide, steroid, and non-steroidal hormones. The impacts of these mechanisms on disease and health are covered, providing a novel update to the scientific literature. Post-transcriptional regulatory mechanisms play an essential role in controlling dynamic gene expression. The outcome of this regulation includes control of the amount, timing, and location of protein expression. Regulation is mediated by cis-acting RNA sequences and structures and transacting RNA binding proteins and non-coding RNAs, including microRNAs. Recent advances in characterization of these regulatory factors have revealed enormous regulatory potential.
The adoption of building information modeling (BIM) in both pedagogy and practice has experienced significant growth in the past decade. As the use of BIM is being quantitatively and qualitatively shown to improve project outcomes, many educators and practitioners are still struggling with how to incorporate BIM into curriculum, training, and current and future projects. This book: is a compilation of the best academic and research articles on the topic of BIM provides a resource for both educators and practitioners for understanding issues regarding BIM covers BIM topics such as BIM Execution Planning, Collaboration, Visualization, Site Utilization Planning, Safety, Estimating, Sequencing, ...
This book provides a deep insight into the most recent breakthroughs and discoveries in numerous fields of civil engineering. The contributors to this collection include renowned researchers and intellectuals who share a love for civil engineering and a commitment to pushing the discipline's frontiers. They give fresh insights and answers on some of the most important difficulties confronting our modern society through their research, focusing on material sciences, the environment, hydrology, construction management, sustainability, and efficiency in building and infrastructure development. The variety of issues addressed in this book emphasizes civil engineering's multidisciplinary character and the critical role it plays in influencing the world we live in. Each page reflects the essence of development and the enormous influence of civil engineering on society, and each chapter will spark new ideas, encourage collaborations, and pave the way for a brighter, more sustainable future for us all.
One of the hallmarks of aging is the decreased capacity to adapt to changes in the environment. In a constant, controlled environment, it is often difficult to distin guish the functioning of the young organism from that of the old. However, when stresses are applied-temperature stresses, dietary stresses, infection, emotional stresses-the differences are more apparent. Frequently, the response ofthe old is delayed and may never reach the same mag'nitude as the young. These responses, in most cases, are mediated by the neuroendocrine system, which communicates via hormones, neurotransmitters, and related substances. Thus, it is important to understand the age-related changes that take place ...
Ensuring current and future architecture is both successfully and sustainably produced is critical for cities and communities to not only survive but thrive. Additionally, improving built environment practices is necessary to protect the world as well as its various populations. Further study on the current challenges and future directions of sustainable architecture is required in order to create a stronger, healthier society. The Handbook of Research on Issues, Challenges, and Opportunities in Sustainable Architecture discusses the role of architecture and the built environment on communities, ecology, and society; relevant issues related to the production of sustainable built environments; and the socio-cultural integration aspects of innovative architectural designs in urban settings. The book also addresses heritage practices, responses to climate action, and technology applications. Covering key topics such as energy efficiency, urban green spaces, and sustainable solutions, this reference work is ideal for policymakers, architects, industry professionals, researchers, scholars, academicians, practitioners, instructors, and students.
