Between the Memory and Post-Memory of Communism in Romania
The first of its kind, this book traces the construction of post-memory in post-communist Romania. Focusing on the processes, gaps, agents, and contradictions of post-memory, it examines a range of topics across a variety of disciplines, addressing questions of museums and musealization, law and memory, political trials and retrospective justice, and post-memory in a digital context, while also considering marginalized and forgotten voices, such as those of the Roma population and abandoned children. Moving away from a focus on the institutional mechanisms of transitional justice or officially sanctioned historical narratives, Between the Memory and Post-Memory of Communism in Romania brings together some of the leading voices in the field of memory studies in Romania to adopt a more pluralistic and diverse approach to the communist past. Dossierveillance, Collaboration, and Fear in Society
Exploring the cultural history of surveillance practices of the Securitate, Romania’s secret police during its communist period, the book blends biographical details in a historical inquiry to establish the concepts of psuchegraphy, dossierveillance, and banalization of evil in the study of Securitate Archives. In the context of communist Romania under the reign of Nicolae Ceauşescu (1965–89), dossierveillance was a type of surveillance that stresses the miasmic effect of Securitate dossiers in the daily life of Romanians. Centered around the analysis of this concept, the book presents a unique account of the surveillance practices of totalitarian and authoritarian regimes, expanding its relevance to fear in the current neo-liberal societies. This book will appeal to students of Eastern European history and politics, criminology, sociology, anthropology, and surveillance studies.

In 1979 Dubrovnik was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site, which had consequences for the city's broader cultural heritage. Walls and Gateways explores how this status intersects with the reconstruction and consolidation of identities and locality in the city’s post-war context. It analyses how representations, perceptions and uses of Dubrovnik’s heritage are embedded in particular cultural practices, materiality and place.
