Sustainable horticulture is gaining increasing attention in the field of agriculture as demand for the food production rises to the world community. Sustainable horticultural systems are based on ecological principles to farm, optimizes pest and disease management approaches through environmentally friendly and renewable strategies in production agriculture. It is a discipline that addresses current issues such as food security, water pollution, soil health, pest control, and biodiversity depletion. Novel, environmentally-friendly solutions are proposed based on integrated knowledge from sciences as diverse as agronomy, soil science, entomology, ecology, chemistry and food sciences. Sustainable horticulture interprets methods and processes in the farming system to the global level. For that, horticulturists use the system approach that involves studying components and interactions of a whole system to address scientific, economic and social issues. In that respect, sustainable horticulture is not a classical, narrow science. Instead of solving problems using the classical painkiller approach that treats only negative impacts, sustainable horticulture treats problem sources.

Climate-Smart Agricultural Technologies

This book addresses the technologies that can be employed to tackle the challenges of global food security. Several recent studies have reported the significant impact of changing climate on the agricultural production, thus posing a challenge in achieving global food security. Thus, to mitigate these challenges there is an urgent need to develop approaches that may be helpful for the sustainability of food production. These approaches are based on three objectives: (i) sustainably increasing agricultural productivity to support equitable increases in farm incomes, food security, and development; (ii) adapting and building the resilience of food systems to climate change; and (iii), where possible, reducing GHGs emissions from agriculture. This book provides updated information for these climate-smart agricultural technologies that hold high potential to increase productivity, improve resilience, and provide efficient resource utilization. This book is a valuable resource for undergraduates, postgraduates, researchers, professors and policymakers in the field of agriculture, botany and agriculture extension functionaries.

Ethical Omnivores

This book provides a detailed overview of ethical omnivorism, as well as the philosophical foundations of this movement and diet. Many eaters are concerned about the impact that their food choices have on the environment, animals, and human health. Ethical omnivorism is at once a new food ethic, diet, and global movement aimed at providing a flexible path for eaters committed to bringing about lasting change one meal at a time. While publications in food ethics are largely dominated by vegetarian titles, this book explores the viability of omnivorism, a dietary choice which is not devoid of animal products, but one which embraces eating local, eating organic, and eating humanely raised food ...

Life science has experienced a unique level of growth and development in recent times, as has the area of fruit crop regulation. Hence, the authors have been inspired to write this book entitled Advances in Growth Regulation of Fruit Crops. There are limited books with advanced knowledge on the growth and development of fruit crops, and therefore, there is a need for greater information to be made available about basic and advanced concepts of growth and regulation vis-a-vis fruit development. Growth regulation of fruit crops is a multifaceted and dynamic subject that requires simplified form so that the students pursuing UG (B.Sc) in Horticulture or Life Sciences or PG (M.Sc. and Doctorate)...
