Rumour and Radiation
This is a book about video art, and about sound art. The thesis is that sound first entered the gallery via the video art of the 1960s and in so doing, created an unexpected noise. The early part of the book looks at this formative period and the key figures within it - then jumps to the mid-1990s, when video art has become such a major part of contemporary art production, it no longer seems an autonomous form. Paul Hegarty considers the work of a range of artists (including Steve McQueen, Christian Marclay, Ryan Trecartin, and Jane and Louise Wilson), proposing different theories according to the particular strategy of the artist under discussion. Connecting them all are the twinned ideas of intermedia and synaesthesia. Hegarty offers close readings of video works, as influenced by their sound, while also considering the institutional and material contexts. Applying contemporary sound theory to the world of video art, Paul Hegarty offers an entirely fresh perspective on the interactions between sound, sound art, and the visual.

Swahili Tales of Crowich Forest By: Vinod Nair Swahili is a mutant toad who lives in Crowich Forest. The forest is the site of a reactor used to create mutants by a crazy scientist. The government takes it over only to enforce its harsh rules on the mutants. Swahili grows up to be a crime investigator and goes around looking for his missing friend, Achillus, who is out to investigate drug rings around the world. Swahili discovers these rings around the world and puts an end to them. He also fights a crime lord Vulpecula, who is a mutant vulture and operates from Dumbo in New York City. The county is rife with misdemeanors committed by county officials and police personnel. Swahili eventually vanquishes Vulpecula and the government leaves Crowich. A new government sets in. The story revolves around the apathy of the county government leading to widespread misdemeanors and oppression by county administrative and police officials. The book is a tale of oppression, heroism and victory.
Thinking Out of Sight
Jacques Derrida remains a leading voice of philosophy, his works still resonating today—and for more than three decades, one of the main sites of Derridean deconstruction has been the arts. Collecting nineteen texts spanning from 1979 to 2004, Thinking out of Sight brings to light Derrida's most inventive ideas about the making of visual artworks. The second contains interviews and collaborations with artists on topics ranging from the politics of color to the components of painting. Finally, the book delves into Derrida's writings on photography, video, cinema, and theater, ending with a text published just before his death about his complex relationship to his own image. With many texts appearing for the first time in English, Thinking out of Sight helps us better understand the critique of representation and visibility throughout Derrida's work, and, most importantly, to assess the significance of his insights about art and its commentary.

In Artistic Reconfigurations of Rome Kaspar Thormod examines how visions of Rome manifest themselves in artworks produced by international artists who have stayed at the city’s foreign academies. Structured as an alternative guide to Rome, the book represents an interdisciplinary approach to creating a dynamic visual history that brings into view facets of the city’s diverse contemporary character. Thormod demonstrates that when artists successfully reconfigure Rome they provide us with visions that, being anchored in a present, undermine the connotations of permanence and immovability that cling to the ‘Eternal City’ epithet. Looking at the work of these artists, the reader is invited to engage critically with the question: what is Rome today? – or perhaps better: what can Rome be?
