The Next Century of Maltese Linguistics
This volume presents contemporary research across various facets of Maltese linguistics. Part I examines Maltese from a diachronic perspective and phonological developments. The studies in Part II address morphology and syntax, namely, agreement, derivation, secondary predication, coordinated prepositions, and object reduplication. Part III sheds light on applied linguistics and recent advancements in Maltese. Lastly, the papers in Part IV discuss synonymy. Several papers offer comparative analyses between Maltese and other Romance or Semitic languages. The insights gained regarding Maltese contribute to research on related languages, as well as to general and typological linguistics.

In this publication the author draws a picture, based on notarial archives, of the development, strategies and mores of those Maltese families that achieved upward economic and social mobility through trade, using opportunities created by the opening of the Suez canal and by Malta's changing role within the British Empire. This volume is the seventh to be published in a series based on dissertations completed by doctoral researchers who participate in CLIOHRES.net, a net work of excellence for history.

Su come migliorare la scuola si dice e si scrive molto, ma cosa fanno realmente le scuole? Quali strategie mettono in atto? Come si organizzano? Come si può agire per fornire dall’esterno un supporto alla loro azione? Le ricerche presentate in questo volume, frutto della collaborazione tra l’INDIRE e le Università di Bologna, di Genova e di Milano Bicocca, indagano sul campo come si sono mosse le 300 scuole del progetto VALeS, banco di prova del Sistema Nazionale di Valutazione, alle prese con il loro Piano di Miglioramento. Ci si misura con le difficoltà, i problemi che si incontrano nel compiere passi concreti, misurabili, che diano la certezza di fare qualcosa per colmare le criticità che affliggono le scuole. Ma dalle ricerche emergono anche pratiche innovative, soluzioni organizzative originali, modalità dinamiche di condivisione e di crescita della comunità scolastica che testimoniano la vitalità e la tensione verso il miglioramento continuo che animano le nostre scuole.
