How will AI transform architecture? How can we conceptualize AI in the context of architecture? The contributors to this volume discuss different positions to understand the fundamental shift provoked by AI and contextualize this shift in forms of operational theories and performative uses of the medium. The volume includes essays by practicing architects who explain how AI is used in their work, by philosophers who reflect on the impact of AI on our way of thinking and conceptualizing the world, and by scientists who explain the foundations and the potential of AI for architecture. It provides the starting point to engaging with AI in architecture.
»Dimensions. Journal of Architectural Knowledge« is an academic journal in, on and from the discipline of architecture, addressing the creation, constitution and transmission of architectural knowledge. It explores methods genuine to the discipline and architectural modes of interdisciplinary methodological adaptions. Processes, procedures and results of knowledge creation and practice are esteemed coequally, with particular attentiveness to the architectural design and epistemologies of aesthetic practice and research. Hans Döllgast’s architectural works of reconstruction and repair have become seminal, resonating with the contemporary prioritisation of reuse at times of climate emerge...

Issue 08/2024 discusses how multidimensional and diverse forms of thinking, designing, and building disrupt and challenge existing paradigms in the field of architecture in ...
Architectural drawings and models are instruments of imagination, communication, and historical continuity. The role of drawings and models, and their ownership, placement, and authorship in a ubiquitous digital age deserve careful consideration. Expanding on the well-established discussion of the translation from drawings to buildings, this book fills a lacuna in current scholarship, questioning the significance of the lives of drawings and models after construction. Including emerging, well-known, and world-renowned scholars in the fields of architectural history and theory and curatorial practices, the thirty-five contributions define recent research in four key areas: drawing sites/sites...

»Dimensions. Journal of Architectural Knowledge« is an academic journal in, on, and from the discipline of architecture, addressing the constitution of architectural knowledge. It explores methods genuine to the discipline and architectural modes of interdisciplinary methodological adaptions. Processes, and results of knowledge creation and practice are esteemed coequally, with particular attention to the architectural design in practice and research. »Making Sense: Thinking through Making Architecture«, Issue 06/2023, investigates how the production of architectural knowledge involves the interaction of the body, the material reality, and the environmental world. Making sense here is defined as the production of architectural knowledge through the physical act of making. The contributors to this issue show how making architecture may be understood as a way of thinking.
In contrast to buildings divided by walls, monospace buildings are determined far less by its shell than by a reciprocal relationship between space and practices, objects, materials, and human bodies. Using the example of such one-room-architectures, this book explores the potential of an actor-network-theory (ANT) approach to space in the field of architecture. Sabine Hansmann focuses on the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts in Norwich, England by Foster Associates (1978) to investigate the mutual entanglement of people, objects and building. She traces the work that is necessary in »doing« space and thus suggests a re-conceptualisation of space in architectural theory.
